What it’s like living in Florist Highlands
Living in Florist Highlands, you'll have the perks of city living, like nearby shops and commuter highways, with the atmosphere and space of the suburbs. The community is made up of three smaller subdivisions: Florist Highlands, Little Menomonee Parkway and Parkway Hills. While each pocket has a slightly different style and vibe, all three combine urban convenience with suburban charm.
Housing styles in Florist Highlands and what they cost
Ranch-style homes are the most common across the three residential pockets, with Cape Cods, split-levels and Colonial Revivals being scattered throughout. "There's a sense of community over here. The neighbors know each other and introduce themselves," says Kinyata Hendriex, a Realtor with Reign Realty Inc., who lives in the community. "There are a lot of homeowners, too, and the homes are very well-maintained." Single-family home prices range from the mid-$100,000s to the mid-$300,000s, and those in the western half of the neighborhood fetch the highest prices, in part due to their larger lots. "The prices are pretty good for what you get with the homes and the land around them," Hendriex says.
Florist Highlands has some of the more spacious lots in Milwaukee. Still, with a median price in the mid-$200,000s, it is significantly less expensive than in nearby Menomonee Falls. In addition to larger yards, the community has multifamily homes priced between the mid-$200,000s and the mid-$300,000s. "It's still mostly owner-occupants living [in the duplexes] who will rent out the other side or the other unit," Hendriex says.
Cape Cod homes and other styles from the mid-1900s are common.

Families are drawn to spacious homes and highly rated schools nearby
Nearly a third of Florist Highlands residents are under 18. "The neighborhood is a great place to raise kids," Hendriex says. "Kids still ride their bikes and roller skate in circles around the blocks. They feel safe there." Spacious lots and homes with many bedrooms are attractive to growing families, and having a choice in nearby schooling options is a bonus. Both Milwaukee and Wisconsin offer school choice and open enrollment. So, parents can choose the school that's right for their kids through the Milwaukee Public Schools district website, or send them across the city border to the highly rated schools in the School District of Menomonee Falls.
Interstate 41 is next to the neighborhood for easy commuting.
Commuting from Florist Highlands to nearby cities and communities
Buses stop along Mill Road, and some bike paths connect to designated lanes in other neighborhoods. Still, the area is not very accessible without a car, so most residents drive. Fortunately, commuting from Florist Highlands is simple thanks to a few highways and main thoroughfares just next to the area's homes:
Interstate 41 is the neighborhood's western border and a major thoroughfare in the area, connecting south to Interstate 94 and the communities of Butler and Wauwatosa.
U.S. Routes 145 and 175 head towards downtown Milwaukee, about a 25-minute drive.
Mill Road stretches east and west, connecting the neighborhood to Menomonee Falls and Glendale.
Take a stroll on the beautiful Oak Leaf Trail.
Little Menomonee River Parkway brings new space for outdoor recreation
Milwaukee County Parks made improvements to the parkway area, cleaning up debris and creating a more active place. "I'm glad they did that because it was used as a dumping ground for people," Hendriex says. "They would leave their old furniture there, but that won't be happening anymore because you can't drive through." Little Menomonee River Parkway is now a mile-long recreational trail that connects two sections of the paved Oak Leaf Trail, which spans 135 miles through the county. Biking or walking south, you'll reach the Menomonee River Parkway and the parks and golf courses along the river.
Where residents do their weekly shopping
Residents head about 4 miles south on I-41 to shop in Wauwatosa for retail and groceries. Target, Metro Market, T.J. Maxx, Whole Foods Market, Meijer and Lowe's are all in the area. Mayfair is a shopping mall with casual chain restaurants, fashion retailers and department stores.
