Sought-after homes on the edge of Minneapolis
Even surrounded by popular Edina, charming Linden Hills and lovely Lynnhurst, Fulton stands out as one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Minneapolis. The boutique shops, well-cared-for Tudor homes and nearby Lake Harriet would be enough for many neighborhoods, but Fulton is also where neighbors help shovel snow off front steps and organize block club gatherings. “When I hosted an open house, one of the neighbors came over and just gushed about how much she loves the community,” says Markesha Smith, a Realtor with Re/Max Results who has sold homes in the area. Lending to this neighborhood’s evergreen appeal is its proximity to 50th and France, a hip shopping district well-known for its restaurants. Also, its excellent schools that make it popular with families.
Shop, dine or catch a movie at 50th and France
On the western edge of the neighborhood sits 50th and France, a hip shopping district that lies on the cusp of Minneapolis where it meets Edina. Some residents are just a few blocks away from outposts for national brands like Athleta and Anthropologie or local boutiques like Bumbershute and Title Nine, where they can shop curated styles. There are also plenty of restaurants around to feed hungry shoppers, whether it’s a sweet pastry from Wuollet Bakery, a juicy burger from Red Cow or sake and sashimi from Ama Sushi. A movie at the classic Edina Mann Theater is a perfect way to round out the night, or residents can stop by Lunds and Byerlys to grab groceries on the way home.

Colorful homes come in classic styles with modern updates
Homes in Fulton are unique and stylish, situated on modest lots with just enough green space for a tree to tower over the sidewalks and a handful of shrubs to frame the entryway. Plenty of homes dating back to the early 1900s come in classic varieties like Colonial Revivals, Tudor Revivals, Craftsmans, midcentury modern ramblers and Prairie-style homes. No two houses are exactly alike, though common features including front porches framed by wooden columns, vibrantly painted doors and decorative gable brackets. While a small Cape Cod can sell for $350,000 or under, four-bedroom modern builds can be priced upwards of $1 million. “There’s a trend of teardowns right now, so there’s a mix of old and new homes,” Smith says. The median price, however, is $555,000, which is enough to purchase an established three- or four-bedroom home.

Outdoor recreation for lake bums and landlubbers alike
Pershing Park occupies multiple blocks in the northwest quadrant of the neighborhood and is most notable for housing Southwest Stadium, where Southwest High’s Lakers play. However, the park has a number of other sports facilities that make it a popular spot for adult and youth teams to practice, and the playground and wading pool make this park a favorite for kids. Of course, with Lake Harriet bordering the neighborhood, waterfront recreation is also a major draw for locals — biking trails encircle the lake, connecting to beaches where residents can stretch out to get some sun or launch their kayaks in the water.

The community convenes at the Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival
When Lake Harriet freezes over, locals bring out their ice skates and prepare for the Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival. If multicolored kites in unusual shapes over the winter wonderland aren’t enough, the festival usually occurs at the same time as the Art Shanty Projects, during which Minneapolitans put down their ice fishing poles and pick up paint brushes to create modern — and sometimes zany — takes on fishing shanties.
Head east to hop on Interstate 35
Residents in Fulton can reach downtown Minneapolis in roughly 20 minutes, with Interstate 35 due east along 50th Street. The highway also allows locals to reach the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport in less than 20 minutes, making for easy pickup and drop-offs when traveling.
