A walkable downtown hub: Miramar Town Center

The downtown area broke ground in 2002 and has grown into a walkable hub characterized by lush tropical landscaping and elegant Mediterranean Revival architecture. A courtyard and fountain lie at its heart, surrounded by local chains like Paris Morning Bakery, El Churracaso Grill and Juici Patties. As for day-to-day shopping, a handful of shopping centers line Miramar Parkway. They offer even more chain restaurants and stores, including Vicky Bakery, Sprouts Farmers Market and Aldi.

Community and culture converge at Miramar Multicultural Center

Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark (MCC) celebrates creativity and diversity downtown. The waterfront campus hosts a variety of rotating art displays, live performances, and art and dance classes. The MCC ArtScape is a series of sculptures along the lakefront rotated every two years. “We take interviews from the artists, so if you scan the QR code, you can hear from the artists themselves,” says Camasha Cevieux, Miramar's director of cultural affairs. MCC is also popular for its botanical garden. “We have little cards in a mailbox there that [visitors] can write on,” Cevieux says. Locals can tie the notecards to any of the mature trees shading the garden.

Gated subdivisions of Spanish Revival condos and townhouses

Each gated subdivision has lakes, mature trees and Spanish Revival-style multifamily homes. Sections like Martinique were developed in the early 2000s, while others like Montclair are a bit newer. Condos start around $250,000 with one-bedroom units and max out at about $400,000 with three-bedroom units. Townhouses range from around $350,000 for some two-bedroom floorplans to roughly $600,000 for larger three-bedroom floorplans. Each subdivision is HOA-managed. The neighborhood is in a special flood zone, so flood insurance is required for government-backed mortgages. Even 10 miles from the beach, hurricane season is still a time for caution.
