Hamilton's history as a mill village
Hamilton is a historic section of North Kingstown known as one of New England's oldest industrial sites. It was originally known as Bissell's Mills when a gristmill opened in the neighborhood in the late 1600s. The mill was used for textile production for almost 130 years until it closed in 1978. Almost a decade later, it was converted into condos. Today, it is a quiet residential area surrounded by an undeveloped conservation area. It is bordered by Bissel Cove to the east. In certain months, migrating seals can be spotted in the water.
