A modern frontier
The tourism department of Oklahoma City calls its city The Modern Frontier, but residents in Chisholm may prefer the Modern more than the Frontier despite its location. Named after the Chisholm Trail, a post-Civil War cattle trail made famous by John Wayne in the film Red River, Chisholm is just a few blocks from the Western theme park Frontier City.
Sprawling ramblers under old-growth oaks
According to Michael Wallace, a top Realtor with Re/Max at Home, when it comes to home styles, "It's pretty traditional" in Chisholm. "There's a mixture; it's mostly single-family homes, and some new housing is being developed." The late-century ranch style is ubiquitous around here, with most homes offering a more modern feel and standard than the postwar ranch-style homes that populate suburbs closer to downtown. Home buyers can find simple brick ranch-style homes with back patios shaded by oaks and the occasional redbud tree for under $300,000. Listed for under $400,000 are Tudor-inspired mansions built this century in upscale developments such as Cheyenne Ridge Villas. At the top of the market, stone mansions with multiple bedrooms and in-ground pools on large lots in luxury subdivisions like Tall Oaks can be found for under $1 million.
Chisholm is a quiet and family friendly neighborhood in Oklahoma City.

Edmond Memorial High School is rated an "A" school on Niche in Chisholm.
One of the best districts in Oklahoma
One thing that makes neighborhoods in the outer suburbs of OKC like Chisholm desirable is the better schools. Chisholm is in the Edmond Public School system, ranked among the top three districts in the state. Wallace says, "All the Edmond schools are considered pretty good, whereas Oklahoma City has struggled for a long time with their school districts." Chisholm Elementary School received an A from the school rankings website Niche, as did Cimarron Middle School and Memorial High School. Memorial High is a National Blue Ribbon school. The Oklahoma Christian University campus occupies part of the northern section of Chisholm.
Trails, catfish and sailboats
Plenty of large lawns are within this two-square-mile neighborhood, but the nearest parks are a mile to the north and a mile to the northwest. Both, however, are larger than most parks in OKC. E.C. Hafer Park to the north offers 120 acres of trails, a pond and multiple recreation areas for children of all ages. Spring Creek Park occupies 200 acres next to the 2,000-acre Arcadia Lake, where visitors may camp, swim, boat and hike. Anglers are drawn to the covered dock, allowing year-round fishing for local catfish and bass varieties.
A renovated downtown
According to Wallace, "Old Downtown Edmond has been revitalized with newer shops, restaurants and bars." One of those restaurants, Cafe 501, landed on Eater Magazine's list of 15 Essential Restaurants in Oklahoma City. Food critics at the magazine recommend the traditional eatery's coyote sandwich, among other things. Closer to Chisholm, Joey's Café is a classic spot catering primarily to OCU students, and next door, there's a branch of the beloved Oklahoma ice cream chain Braum's Ice Cream & Dairy Store. The closest supermarket is a Natural Grocer organic market. Aldi and Walmart are under a mile north.
The breakfast tacos at Joey's Cafe is a local favorite in Chisholm.
An Oklahoma original, All American Pizza in Chisholm is a great place for cheesy pizza.

Route 77 goes straight downtown
OKC's Embark public transportation system doesn't extend this far north, but drivers living in Chisholm have an easy time getting anywhere in the region thanks to its proximity to the intersection of Interstates 35 and 44. The Oklahoma State Capitol is an 11-mile drive south along US Route 77, called the Broadway Extension Highway around these parts.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
