Lakeside is a popular neighborhood for its nearby recreation

Separated from Lake Hefner’s sparkling waters by just a mile, Lakeside lives up to its name. Realtor Kristina Moosavi, with Re/Max Lifestyle, notes that neighborhoods around the lake’s southeastern shores are “highly desirable due to location.” Moosavi: “These neighborhoods have everything you could want from a northwest Oklahoma City community. You’re close to all the shopping and dining off the Northwest Expressway and May Avenue, and you’re even closer to the lake and all its amenities.”

Colonial, Tudor-inspired and bungalow homes from $200,000 to $700,000

The midcentury brick ranches and Colonial Revival and Tudor-inspired homes in Lakeside range in price between $200,000 and $700,000. Moosavi observes that home values increase with their proximity to Nichols Hills: “As you move east toward Nichols Hills, you’ll find larger, more expensive homes, but it’s still possible to find a great deal on an older home in need of some TLC.” A typical 1950s bungalow-style ranch, with two bedrooms, one bathroom, an aluminum carport and original hardwood flooring throughout tends to sell for around $205,000, slightly under the median for the larger metro area. Larger three-bedroom, three-bathroom, Traditional-style homes with Colonial Revival-inspired shutters and crown molding and new stainless-steel appliances and stone countertops in the kitchens tend to sell for closer to $635,000, above the median for the metro.

Learning in OKC Public Schools district

When the bell rings, Lakeside students attend schools in the Oklahoma City Public Schools system. Many go to Nichols Hills Elementary, which earns a C-plus from Niche, followed by C-minus-rated John Marshall Middle and C-rated John Marshall High School. Students at the high school can participate in Finance Academy, a specialized program focusing on business-related courses that cover finance and technology in order to prepare students for future college and career paths.

Lakeside is minutes from stores, restaurants and entertainment

Aside from the unique selection of homes Lakeside offers, it’s the community’s location that makes it so popular. “This area of OKC is one of the most convenient places to live,” says Moosavi, noting that with both Lake Hefner and two major thoroughfares close by residents are spoiled for choice when it comes to shopping, dining and entertainment. Sprouts Farmers Market and Natural Grocers are both within half a mile of most homes, east of Lakeside off of May Avenue. Beloved big box stores and national chains like Target and Home Depot are also a quick jaunt from the neighborhood, at less than 2 miles southeast down the Northwest Expressway.

Fishing on Lake Hefner and exploring Hefner Park

No other nearby amenities top Lakeside’s proximity to Lake Hefner. With just a couple blocks and Hefner Park standing between the neighborhood and the lakefront, options for outdoor recreation here are “basically endless,” according to Moosavi. “You can sail, hang out at the beach, fish, bike along the trails, there’s even a golf course,” she lists, adding that the only thing visitors can’t do is swim. And while there is a playground in the expansive, waterfront Hefner Park, residents can stick even closer to home to enjoy classic swings and climbing equipment. Tinsley Park sits between 65th and 66th streets, less than a quarter mile from most homes.
