A popular north Omaha suburb
Built from the ground up as a multi-use community decades before the practice became widespread, Omaha's Miller Park-Minne-Lusa remains a cohesive and connected community more than a century after its inception. Designed for the middle class in 1916, the neighborhood was once the biggest subdivision in the city, with homes that were accented with sidewalks, mature trees, streetlights, a community center and a massive park. It also welcomed businesses and churches, which helped to cultivate a vibrant community in just a few years. “The neighborhood is very active,” says Milt Schneider, a Realtor with Nebraska Realty.

Historic bungalows and neatly landscaped lots
Most of the homes in Miller Park-Minne-Lusa were original to the neighborhood. According to Tina Sempeck, a Realtor with eXp Realty, ownership tends to remain in families, creating generations of residents. That connects neighbors, said Schneider, adding the Miller Park Neighborhood Association, which doesn't charge homeowners' association dues, organizes a range of events, such as block parties, clean-ups and historical tours. Homes tend to offer a range of architectural styles and accents. “They’re a bit smaller than in other neighborhoods, they’re well-built, and they’re architecturally impressive,” she said. Bungalows, cottages and Craftsman-style homes dominate the landscape, sitting atop neat, tidy lots. Prices range from $100,000 to $250,000 on average.

Harold’s Koffee House on North 30th Street, just outside of the neighborhood, offers American breakfast classics. “It’s a little mom-and-pop café with some history behind it,” says Schneider of the place with its origins in post-World War II Omaha and a location that's been the same since 1968. Less than a mile south of the community is Time Out Foods, one of Omaha’s oldest Black-owned restaurants, which has won awards for its cuisine over the years. For grocery shopping, ALDI is on North 30th Street.
