Jobs and entertainment in Hub City

Known as "Hub City" for its central location in Sheboygan County, Plymouth is a community known for its job security and high quality of life. With a steady supply of dairy and cheese-related manufacturing jobs, residents often come to Plymouth for work and stay for its highly regarded schools and low crime rates. With a population of less than 9,000, the city maintains a sense of community pride with a stream of annual celebrations dedicated to giving neighbors every opportunity to lift a glass together. This level of enthusiasm and pride is summarized by Mayor Donald Pohlman with marketing-level gusto: "There's no better place to live than in the cheese capital of the world!"

"The Cheese Capital of the World"

Manufacturing is at the heart of the local economy, with four major cheese facilities producing 40 percent of the county's cheese consumption. These companies, Great Lakes, Masters Gallery, Sargento and Sartori, are major employers in the area and give the city its nickname, "The Cheese Capital of the World." Other major manufacturers include Tomahawk, Plymouth Industries and Shell Plastics.

Happenings and giant Holsteins

Standing 20 feet tall on the spot where the original Wisconsin Cheese Exchange was located, Antoinette the Cow is a symbol of the city's dominance in the dairy industry. A popular roadside destination for travelers, the fiberglass Holstein is also a landmark for locals.

Held every Labor Day, the Sheboygan County Fair draws thousands of people from all over Wisconsin and beyond for carnival rides, attractions and 1-pound, fully loaded baked potatoes. Plymouth is fond of its annual celebrations, including the Cheese Festival, the Mill Street Festival and the Cheese Capital Jazz and Blues Crawl for the Arts. Holiday occasions include the Holiday Gathering Christmas Parade and the New Year's Eve celebration, where the city drops a giant wedge of Sartori cheese at the final countdown.
