Casual Redding community with planetary street theme
In southeast Redding, between two major freeways that head to Downtown Redding or throughout Shasta County, Starview is a residential community of closely situated ranch-style homes. Enterprise Park to the west and Clover Creek Preserve to the east put recreation options close to home, and Redding's main Mount Shasta Mall is only a 4-mile, 9-minute drive north. "We call this neighborhood the planet streets, because you have Solar Way, Apollo, Galaxy, Pluto, names like that," says Tammy Krumvieda, owner/broker with Mistletoe Realty who's been selling in the area since 1996. "Most of these are all older builds from the 1950s and 1960s that make good entry-level starter homes." This friendly neighborhood has a casual, small-town feel.
Central green space for baseball, nearby Kids' Kingdom
Alta Mesa Park sits at the center of Starview, covering almost 7 acres next to Alta Mesa Elementary School. The East Redding Little League practices and plays on the diamond here, and families meet for picnics and playground playdates under shade trees. Tennis buffs appreciate the park's two lighted tennis courts. On either side of Starview, outdoor enthusiasts can find many ways to exercise and enjoy. On the neighborhood's western corner is the 90-acre Enterprise Park, home of Kids' Kingdom — a splash park and playground with an erupting water "volcano." In 2021, pickleball courts were installed in Enterprise, drawing loads of play-action. Running along Starview's east border is the 130-acre Clover Creek Preserve, stitched with a 1.5-mile paved walking loop around a retention pond and exposed trails that wind through natural grass oak trees. Interpretive signs along the path offer education about the trail system's vernal pools and woodlands. Homes on the eastern edge of Starview are within a few blocks' walk of this scenic open space. On Venus Way at the preserve, there's a Shasta Trinity Fly Fishers clubhouse, built in 2018 by local business The Fly Shop, and a cadre of volunteers. "The Fly Shop is world-famous for their catalog of gear and fly-fishing trips," says Ron Marin, Realtor with Coldwell Banker, selling in the area since 2010. The 3,400-square-foot facility hosts fly-fishing events, classes and special programs.
Ranch-style homes from $275,000
Ranch-style midcentury homes ask between $275,000 and $385,000. In small subdivisions, homes built in the 1980s and 1990s range from $418,000 to $600,000. "Price is really the main draw to choosing Starview, because you're typically going to find homes priced lower here than in Oak Haven or Clover Creek Estate," adds Krumvieda. "You have a lot of standard three-bedroom, one-bath homes unless they've been converted or expanded. People are buying them inexpensively and making them bigger or a lot better. The neighborhood is really in revitalization." Streets have a lived-in feel, where weathered asphalt shows a network of patches, and narrow sidewalks allow baby strollers and kids' bikes to stay out of the road. A smattering of homes have in-ground backyard pools, and high-rising cypress trees sometimes punctuate an established covering of robust oaks and pines.
B-plus Enterprise High School
"It's nice that the elementary school is right in the center of the neighborhood, so kids can just walk to school," says Krumvieda. The neighborhood's Alta Mesa Elementary gets a Niche C-plus, and Parsons Junior High earns a B-minus. Older students head to Enterprise High, which also gets a B-plus. In 2022, the Enterprise boys' basketball team won their first state championship.
Casual Shasta Pizza and Lighthouse, more dining and shopping at Mount Shasta Mall
Picking up dinner on the way home is easy at the delivery- and takeout-only Shasta Pizza on Hartnell Avenue, an institution in the community since the 1990s. Their most popular pie is The Mountain, piled high with veggies and meats and named in honor of the iconic Mount Shasta landmark about an hour north. For dining out, The Lighthouse on Hartnell has a sparse seaside vibe, where fish and chips are a specialty. To shop, dine and take in a movie all in one area, residents can reach Mount Shasta Mall's brand-name stores, chain restaurants and Cinemark 14 Redding within a 10-minute, 3.5-mile drive north. Holiday Market on Hartnell is the closest grocery store, and several national grocery chains surround the mall, including Trader Joe's and Sprouts.
Easy Interstate 5 and Highway 44 access
Starview is bordered by Hartnell Avenue and Shasta View Drive, which provide west access to Interstate 5 and north access to Highway 44. Most residents drive, but if public transit is needed, the Redding Area Bus Authority has bus stops along Hartnell Avenue and Shasta View Drive. It only takes about 9 minutes to drive the 4.5-mile distance from the south end of Starview to reach Redding Regional Airport.
Heat risk means insurance is essential
Starview gets an 8 out of 10 score for heat factor and a 7 out of 10 for severe fire factor from the First Street climate risk data foundation. Homebuyers need to confirm if a property is insurable for wildfire risk.
Annual Freedom Festival fireworks and Kool April Nites car show
The Freedom Festival, held at the Redding Civic Auditorium, is one of the largest fireworks shows in California. Starview residents also look forward to the 10-day Kool April Nites — the largest classic car show in Northern California — running every April since 1990. It's. As part of the festival, classic cars of all kinds cruise from the Redding Civic Center for miles on closed-off corridors such as Dana Drive, Hilltop Drive and Churn Creek Road. The festivities include food vendors and live music.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
