Alessandro Heights
Mission revivals and Spanish estates
Modern residential development began in the 1980s and continues to the present. Mission Revival-style homes with clay-tiled rooftops, stucco siding, and arched windows and doorways are the most common style here, but there are also some ranch and Colonial Revival homes. Many homes have backyard swimming pools where residents cool off in the summer heat. Others feature views of natural scenery and distant mountains from their windows. Prices can range anywhere from $700,000 for a 2,000-square-foot home to around $1 million for homes upwards of 4,000 square feet on 3-acre lots. Grand luxury estates also exist here and can list for more than $2 million. An excellent high school
Young students attend nearby Washington Elementary School and Matthew Gage Middle School, both of which hold B ratings from Niche, an online school review site. Meanwhile, upperclassmen can attend A-minus-rated Riverside Polytechnic High School, one of the top-ranked high schools in the city. Polytechnic High offers dual enrollment with Riverside City College, a public community college, for students who want to fast-track their college careers.Hiking and golfing
The 1,500-acre Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park is about 6 miles east. With trails that crisscross the wide-open countryside, locals can take in the area’s lush flora with views of Los Angeles County below. Residents can head about 10 miles southwest to reach Lake Mathews Estelle Mountain Reserve, a large reservoir surrounded by thousands of acres of protected land. Recreational water use is off-limits at the reservoir, but there are plenty of trails and parks surrounding it, including Harford Springs Reserve, Walker Canyon Ecological Reserve and Indian Truck Trail. Canyon Crest Country Club offers a more civilized experience.Mission Grove shopping
The closest shopping is just east at Mission Grove Shopping Center, where residents can pick up their groceries at Sprouts Farmers Market and Stater Bros. Markets. Dining options include chain restaurants like Original Tommy’s Hamburgers alongside local favorites like Ohana Sushi and Romano’s Italian Restaurant & Chicago Pizzeria. The shopping plaza is also home to Galaxy Theatres Mission Grove, a multiplex cinema that shows the latest Hollywood films. To the northwest, there’s a Trader Joe’s in Magnolia Center and a Home Depot in Casa Blanca.Getting around Riverside
Alessandro Heights is located at the southern edge of Riverside, but its proximity to Route 91 gives residents a straight shot to the city’s downtown district, about 7 miles north of the neighborhood. It’s also only 18 miles from San Bernardino, the main economic and cultural hub of the Inland Empire.
