Bliss Park is the main green space
Bliss Park, which is located across from the Covenant Medical Center, has tree-shaded green space, picnic pavilions and a small playground. Covenant's location is also a short distance from several city attractions, including the Pit and Balcony Theatre, where a troupe of community actors performs. Larger performances and concerts take place at the Temple Theatre, about 1 mile east. Families might stop by the nearby Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum or drive across the river to visit the penguins at the Saginaw Children's Zoo. Ojibway Island is also on the opposite side of the Saginaw River, and pedestrians can cross over via the Court Street or Holland Street bridges, which both have raised sidewalks. The island is home to Rust Park, where Saginaw residents come for Fourth of July fireworks and summer concerts were held for many years. The park has paved paths for those who want to stroll along the riverbanks.

Mostly older homes, with prices around $100,000
Some of Covenant's homes were built to house the many lumber mill workers who moved to the area in the mid-to-late 1800s, while others were built in the early 1900s. There are farmhouses, Dutch Colonials and some bungalows. "That’s where some of the big old homes are," says Realtor Michelle Hill of Ayre/Rhinehart. “The homes aren’t necessarily as well kept, so they have a few more challenges, but they’re still very affordable." Listings usually range from $20,000 to $120,000, and those priced under $80,000 often need extensive repairs. Houses rest on compact, grassy lots, which are edged by tree-shaded sidewalks. Most lots have private driveways or rear garages, leaving the roadways relatively clear. The Saginaw River is prone to flooding during heavy rains, and some lenders may require flood insurance.
Covenant boasts a vast array of farmhouse-style homes, perfect for growing families.

A few neighborhood amenities, and more options in Old Town Saginaw
Covenant has a few take-out restaurants and a Save A Lot grocery store, but most retail and dining are a short walk or drive away. Old Town Saginaw is just east of the neighborhood, and its two-story, Italianate-style brick buildings house coffee shops, bakeries and upscale restaurants. At the corner of Hancock Street and Michigan Avenue, for example, Artisan Urban Bistro serves everything from stuffed spaghetti squash to beer-braised chuck roast, and just a few doors down, Oracle Beer offers seasonal stouts and spiced ales. About 1 mile east, people can buy fresh produce at the Downtown Saginaw Farmers Market, which is open three days a week from May through October. Saginaw's main shopping district is about 5 miles north, near the intersection of Bay and Tittabawassee roads. Shoppers can walk around at the indoor Fashion Square Mall or drive between the big-box chain stores that line the busy, four-lane road.
Old World Pizzeria is a hot spot in the Covenant neighborhood.
