A laid-back suburban community with nearby amenities

A suburb of St. Cloud, Seberger-Roosevelt offers a laid-back residential landscape along the area’s main shopping and dining corridor. Developed in response to the city’s growth in the early to mid-20th century, its ranch-style homes and other contemporaneous architectural styles line its grid-oriented streets. Days here include strolls to the pool of its namesake park, short trips to the events of downtown St. Cloud and running errands along Division Street directly south. “You’re so close to the heart of downtown, and you also have much more affordable housing than other parts of St. Cloud,” says Priccilla Carpenter, a city native.

The mid-1900s homes of Seberger-Roosevelt

Forming Seberger-Roosevelt’s residential landscape are wide streets that lead from one block to the next. Trees parallel most of the streets, rising from grassy median between the avenues and alongside the sidewalks. Well-worn stone retaining walls, narrow footpaths and cement-drawn stairs leading to the front of homes show the community’s age. Ranch-style homes built during the early to mid-1900s comprise most of the community, alongside occasional bi-level and American Vernacular styles of the same era. These homes sit uniformly atop quarter-acre lots. Cutting through the center of each block are alleyways on the backside of homes with detached garages and driveways. Depending on size and condition, prices range from $60,000 to $260,000.

Shopping and dining along nearby Division Street

Division Street runs along the community’s southern border, granting access to various shopping and dining opportunities. “Bridgitte’s Café is pretty well known for being the staple breakfast spot in the area,” Carpenter says. The eatery sits back from the throughway on 32nd Avenue South and serves traditional American-style dishes. Neighboring chain spots include Panera Bread, Scooter’s Coffee and several others. Similarly, developments along the stretch also offer a Lunds & Byerlys for groceries and department stores in the Crossroads Center shopping mall, less than a mile west of the neighborhood.

Taking a dip at Seberger Park

Afternoon trips to Seberger Park, located on the community’s western side, include letting the little ones run loose on the playground or practicing swings atop its tennis court and baseball diamond. However, the park sees most action during summer, when its pool gets filled and lines grow for the polar bear waterslide. Remaining neighborhood parks, including Central Park on 4th Street North and BBC Park on 37th Avenue North, also offer traditional playgrounds for nearby residents.

Supporting local businesses at St. Cloud Area Farmers Market

Every year, the Rotary Club of St. Cloud hosts the Summertime by George! Held every Wednesday evening in downtown’s Lake George Park a mile east, the frequented event includes a rotating list of musicians and local food trucks for attendees to choose from. From May through October, vendors line Lady Slipper Lot on 6th Avenue Street for the St. Cloud Area Farmers Market. Those making the Saturday morning trip can peruse booths selling artisanal goods, locally sourced produce and freshly cut flower bouquets.

Hopping on Interstate 94

Those commuting or making trips to Minneapolis hop onto Interstate 94, situated 5 miles south, for a 66-mile drive southeast to the city. Flights at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport sit along the same route 13 miles farther. Sitting within 3 miles of the neighborhood are the campuses of St. Cloud State University and St. Cloud Technical and Community College, alongside the medical care of St Cloud VA Medical Center. Residents can also take advantage of several St. Cloud Metro Bus stops, most of which sit along 3rd Street Avenue. A railroad track runs east to west along the community’s northern side. Though the periodic passing of trains is considered background noise to many, it may be worth noting for those sensitive to this kind of sound when considering a home on this side of the neighborhood.
