Lively St. Paul neighborhood known for its eateries
It’s hard to be bored living in West Seventh, St. Paul's entertainment district and Minnesota's oldest commercial corridor, where there's never a shortage of things to do. Also called the West End, West Seventh sits just outside Downtown St. Paul and brushes up against major venues, including Xcel Energy Center, home of the Wild NHL franchise. This walkable neighborhood is all about blending the old with the new. “I love it here. It’s quite eclectic, and it’s evolving,” says Michael Korby, a Realtor with Edina Realty Inc. who has been in the business for 24 years. “New restaurants and coffee shops are popping up next to longstanding institutions. There’s a lot of renovation and adaptive reuse here,” says Korby, who has lived in West Seventh the past two years. Those looking to plant roots in West Seventh will find bungalows, Colonial Revival-inspired and Victorian homes in a range of prices from below $120,000 to more than $600,000. Buyers pay around $300,000 on average.
West Seventh is home to Cossetta's, a 300-seat Eatery & Pizzeria.

Plenty to eat and drink along Seventh Street
Hungry and thirsty residents here only need to walk to Seventh Street or Randolph Avenue to find good food or a nice brew. With a laundry list of eateries and bars, the hardest part is deciding which place to step into. Korby’s choice is Tori, a made-to-order noodle shop in a beautifully refurbished train car, “It’s the best place to get ramen,” Korby says. For date nights or get-togethers, locals love Mancini’s Char House, a classic family-run supper club that’s been serving steaks and cocktails in its round leather booths for four generations. The pinnacle dive bar experience can be had at Spot Bar, the self-proclaimed oldest dive in Minnesota, while history and America’s love for German lagers collide at Waldmann Brewery & Wurstery. A homecooked meal starts with grocery shopping at Mississippi Market Natural Foods Co-op or Cooper’s Foods. For live music, there are multiple venues to choose from, such as ROK Music Lounge + Bar featuring an eclectic menu and a cool atmosphere. There are also a handful of art galleries and centers including Art House North and Artista Bottega.

Victorian and Colonial Revival-inspired styles on cozy streets
While some apartment buildings line the waterfront, single-family homes along the compact gridded streets here are clustered around numerous city parks and sit close together with enough room for side yards and driveways. Buyers will find bungalows, Victorians and two-story homes with enclosed front porches. “One of the biggest draws of the neighborhood is there’s still an opportunity to own here. You’re able to find a 19th-century home that’s beautifully preserved,” says Julie Glass, a Realtor with Edina Realty Inc., who’s also Korby’s business partner, and has lived in Minneapolis for 30 years. Most buyers pay around $300,000, but prices can start as low as $120,000 for a smaller home in need of repairs to more than $600,000 for a historic home near Irvine Park or a townhouse with river views.

Historic parks and greenspace by the Mississippi River
Whether on the riverfront or tucked along residential streets, there’s no shortage of greenspace here. Owned by the city since the mid-1800s, Irvine Park dates to the neighborhood’s foundation, and it remains an urban oasis today. Stone walking paths shaded by ash and oak trees and flowering cherry trees lead residents to an ornate metal fountain sitting at its center. A picnic with views of the Mississippi can be had at Upper Landing Park. For athletic fields and courts, residents head to St. Clair Park where kids can practice their soccer skills on the mini-pitch or have fun on the playground.

I love this neighborhood, it's very comfortable for me. I like the access to the rest of the city, airport, river, co-op and entertainment options. If I could change one thing, it would be to reduce car theft and vandalization.
