Parkwood is surrounded by nature
Parkwood is an amenity-filled northwest San Antonio community surrounded by nature. "The northwest side of San Antonio is a balanced part of town with an excellent park system," says Juanita Ortega, a Realtor with Premier Realty Group, who has been selling houses for nearly a decade. The neighborhood sits between two major city parks, connecting to a larger trail system that leads 18 miles downtown. "Parkwood is a neat little community. It's small, but the homes are established and have beautiful trees and shade." Local students attend schools in the highly rated Northside Independent School District, and families in the area are close to busy shopping centers like The Shops at La Cantera.
A network of trails connects to OP Schnabel Park
Residents have easy access to outdoor recreation right in the neighborhood. The community features a junior Olympic-sized pool that opens on Memorial Day, with lifeguards on duty, and nearby lighted tennis and pickleball courts. Behind the pool, a path leads to a trail system connecting Parkwood to the 20-mile Leon Creek Greenway, which winds through the city and connects to two major parks. "This location is great — it’s between OP Schnabel and Bamberger Nature Park," Ortega says. "OP Schnabel Park was the first outdoor space I found when we moved here. It’s full of deer wandering around at all times of day." The park spans over 200 acres and features wooded trails, a YMCA and the Northside Suburban Little League. Several trails lead north to Bamberger Nature Park, surrounded by bigtooth maples, and home to the San Antonio Target Hunting and Fishing Club.
O. P. Schnabel Park features a large walking and biking trail.
Residents can enjoy the covered picnic area at O. P. Schnabel Park.

Quick drive to The Shops at La Cantera
Parkwood is 4 miles south of one of San Antonio's busiest shopping corridors. The Shops at La Cantera is an outdoor mall with over 190 retailers. "I love spending Sundays here, just walking around and shopping. It's a beautiful area," Ortega says. "The trail passes right through Parkwood, so you can hop on a trail and head north to La Cantera for shopping or go south and end up downtown." Mia's Mexican Grill is a family-owned restaurant, opened by a local couple who named it after their daughter. The restaurant features neon signs and a central bar and is known for its slow-smoked barbacoa. The neighborhood is also 3 miles from H-E-B Plus for groceries, and across the street is the larger Bandera Pointe, home to Target and Lowe's.

The area includes traditional brick houses from 2,000 to 5,000 square feet, with bay windows and enclosed yards. Many homes have two-car garages and paved driveways. Prices range from $285,000 to over $525,000, and the community has mandatory HOA dues to help maintain the park-like setting. Tree-lined streets offer access to the neighborhood pool and clubhouse. The area also has a low CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, below the national average of 4.
