A waterfront community in San Mateo
Sitting in the tight spot between the bridge to Foster City and a branch of the Seal Slough, the Lakeshore neighborhood in San Mateo can be easily missed while driving along the Bayshore Freeway. However, this small pocket of suburbia puts its residents within a block or two from a San Francisco-bound highway, a supermarket and waterfront parks. “The location is fantastic,” says Realtor Syed Farhan with Reliable Real Estate. “It is close to several highways, and you can easily get to the airport or anywhere in the Bay Area.”
Lakeshore is nestled between the 92 and 101 freeways.
Lakeshore Park is connected to the Marina Lagoon which is home to many birds.

Housing variety within a small space
Lakeshore’s small size belies a diversity of housing options. Though ranch-style homes built in the 1950s fill the residential blocks west of South Norfolk Street, newer residences and condos sit along the streets east of the main road. Condos have sold for between $735,000 and $830,000, while fully detached residences vary in sale price from $760,000 to $2.6 million. . These prices are just below the average for the region and have been stable for the past year. Homes along Los Prados Street sit along the Seal Slough, locally called the “Marina Lagoon,” with tall hedges forming the boundary between back yards and the canal. Each road has sidewalk access, and many of the side-streets are shaded by ample foliage.
Lakeshore offers large condominiums surrounded by beautiful trails.
The modern homes are just right for families looking for contemporary living.

Recreation by land and by water
As Lakeshore’s name hints, this neighborhood is surrounded by nature, from a peaceful canal to small parks. “People who live in the area are very active for the most part, and they like getting outdoors,” says Farhan. Lakeshore Park not only gives its name to the surrounding neighborhood but also serves as its outdoor recreation hub. This park includes a playground, baseball diamond and basketball court, while a pedestrian pathway runs along the banks of the Marina Lagoon. Just a few blocks south of Hillsdale Boulevard, Los Prados Park features its own playground as well as an expansive soccer field and a mile of trails. The Marina Lagoon itself is open to navigation by small, non-motorized watercraft like kayaks and sailboats.
