Lakeshore
Housing variety within a small space
Lakeshore’s small size belies a diversity of housing options. Though ranch-style homes built in the 1950s fill the residential blocks west of South Norfolk Street, newer residences and condos sit along the streets east of the main road. Condos have sold for between $735,000 and $830,000, while fully detached residences vary in sale price from $760,000 to $2.6 million. . These prices are just below the average for the region and have been stable for the past year. Homes along Los Prados Street sit along the Seal Slough, locally called the “Marina Lagoon,” with tall hedges forming the boundary between back yards and the canal. Each road has sidewalk access, and many of the side-streets are shaded by ample foliage.Shopping at nearby retail centers
The Marina Plaza Shopping Center at Lakeshore’s northern end is home to the Marina Food Market, which specializes in imported East Asian products as well as seafood. Other international flavors are brought out at eateries like the Myung Dong Tofu Cabin, which serves up Korean cuisine and vodka, and the Amigos Grill Cocina Mexicana taqueria. Lakeshore is also just a few blocks away from Whole Foods Market and just up Hillsdale Boulevard from the expansive Hillsdale Shopping Center.Academic and athletic excellence at Hillsdale High
Bayside Academy serves students from kindergarten through Grade 8 and receives a B-plus rating from Niche, while Hillsdale High School scores an A-plus. Hillsdale High offers 45 extracurriculars and 24 varsity-level sports programs.Recreation by land and by water
As Lakeshore’s name hints, this neighborhood is surrounded by nature, from a peaceful canal to small parks. “People who live in the area are very active for the most part, and they like getting outdoors,” says Farhan. Lakeshore Park not only gives its name to the surrounding neighborhood but also serves as its outdoor recreation hub. This park includes a playground, baseball diamond and basketball court, while a pedestrian pathway runs along the banks of the Marina Lagoon. Just a few blocks south of Hillsdale Boulevard, Los Prados Park features its own playground as well as an expansive soccer field and a mile of trails. The Marina Lagoon itself is open to navigation by small, non-motorized watercraft like kayaks and sailboats.Going to San Francisco
Highway 101 forms Lakeshore’s western border, connecting this pocket of suburbia with San Francisco 21 miles up the highway and San Jose 30 miles to the south. Lakeshore is also just 2 miles down Hayward Boulevard from the Hayward Park Caltrain station, which operates weekday services to major urban centers across the Bay Area.
