Secluded residential community surrounded by water
Nestled amid the marshlands just south of Savannah lies Montgomery, a relatively secluded residential neighborhood surrounded by water. The Vernon River is the largest of the waterways that cradle the community. It is joined by the Moon River and Shipyard Creek. Several residents live on the water, but regardless of one's address on the peninsula, the setting offers easy access to the benefits of waterfront living. Montgomery provides an attractive escape among the low country landscape. “It’s tranquil, peaceful,” says Lyn McCuen, an associate broker at Coldwell Banker Access Realty who lives in the neighborhood’s Burnside Island community. “It’s a place to go to get your head back on straight after a busy workday. It’s also a very friendly place. I think because people aren’t in such a hurry.”

Secure a spot by the water
Private docks and boats dot the backyards of the neighborhood’s waterfront homes, which are concentrated on the southern edge of the community. “It’s not only homes on the deep waterfront, but also homes on the marshes with peaceful views and extra privacy,” McCuen says. Waterfront homes are typically priced between $800,000 and $1.3 million-plus. Waterfront living can have its downsides in the wake of severe weather, but McCuen says the neighborhood has rarely been affected. “Most everything out here is considered a flood zone … but we have had very few times where we experienced a hurricane on the outlying islands,” she says. “And if you’re on the marshes and the water gets in, it has somewhere to go.” Single-story ranch-style homes on spacious lots are prominent among inland housing typically priced between the low $300,000s and mid-$600,000s. “There are a lot of interior lots where people can afford to buy,” says George Cohen, a Realtor and advisor with Engel & Volkers who has sold multiple properties in Montgomery. Traditionally, this area has been more affordable than city neighborhoods. Prices are going up everywhere, but there’s still a lot of good values.”

Savannah is a beautiful place to live in. Crime in Savannah has gone up in the past few years, though. It seems to be one of the more crime centered cities in the country. The historic atmosphere of Savannah is amazing. Tourists come from all over to admire the city and its background. Living in Savannah all of your life, you miss historical things or even take them for granted. Savannah is beautiful, and though crime has seemed to grow, I could not imagine living anywhere else.

I would choose to live here again! I met great people including my boyfriend. The weather is lovely. I love the rain and it rains a lot here. From a scale 1-10, I would say it is a 9. Only reason to this is because my old friends don't live here.
