Relaxed and active in the Villages of Oak Creek

Red rock buttes, desert hiking trails and golf courses define the Villages of Oak Creek, an outlying community of Sedona. “People get up early,” says Nisreen Hawley, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Arizona Properties. “You grab a coffee at a local bakery, get some nutrition in you, and hit whatever you’re going to do.” While the community is active, the vibe is relaxed. “It’s easygoing and slower-paced,” says Drew (Hal) Clark, a Realtor with Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty. “It’s got a retirement community feel to it.”

Golf courses and desert hiking trails

Three golf courses add grass and trees to Village of Oak Creek’s landscape. Sedona Golf Resort and County Mesa and Oakcreek Country Clubs offer 18-hole courses and clubhouses for members to enjoy, and many residents move and retire to this community for these courses. The landscape around the Villages of Oak Creek is full of hiking trails that begin just outside the neighborhood. “It’s sort of a hiking mecca,” says Clark. Bell Rock overlooks the neighborhood and has hiking and mountain biking trails up the mesa. Jack’s Canyon Trailhead leads through the red sand desert and connects to Munds Mountain, where the peak provides sweeping views of the landscape.

Sidewalks are not a normal sight, but the streets tend to be quiet. Pueblo Revival houses sit next to Mediterranean-style homes with stucco walls and red-shingled roofs. Three-bedroom homes with 1,500 square feet sell for $700,000 to $1 million, and three to five-bedroom homes with 2,800 square feet sell for $1.5 million to $3.7 million. One to two-bedroom townhomes in the area typically sell for $300,000 to $430,000. The Villages at Oak Creek is also designated a Dark Sky Community, which limits personal and commercial light use to prevent light pollution. “Sometimes you can see the Milky Way like someone painted it with a paint roller,” says Clark. Homebuyers should know that the Villages at Oak Creek scores a 2 out of 10 on the CAP Crime Index, which is lower than the national average of 4.

Restaurants and shops just outside the front door

Restaurants and shops line U.S. Route 179, which runs through the heart of the Villages of Oak Creek. “You’ve got what you need without going into Sedona proper,” says Clark. Red Rock Café offers southwestern food in a casual setting, and Cucina Rustica offers upscale Italian dishes in a space designed after a villa, complete with a trellised outdoor seating area and wrought iron chairs. SALT I PINE offers metaphysical health and wellness goods, and Yogi Yoga Wear is a go-to for exercise gear. Clay’s Market and Pharmacy is the area’s grocery store. Plus, the Collective Sedona is in the middle of the neighborhood and is a vibrant shopping mall with unique retail shops, restaurants, a spa, a tasting room and an events space. The brightly colored building is in the style of adobe and is considered the "Gateway to Sedona."
