New constructions and 1980s St. John family homes
Ranch-style dwellings built in the mid-2000s often come with two-car garages and sometimes a basement. These two-to-four-bedroom ranch homes can cost between $350,000 and $550,000. Traditional new constructions with modern farmhouse and Craftsman aesthetics often have four to five bedrooms and three-car garages. These residences in new subdivisions can cost between $550,000 and 800,000 or more. Many families that live along Springlake Road have private pools and a view of the manmade pond. Established houses like those on Oakridge Drive have varying design styles from the 1980s and cost between $375,000 and $475,000. Here, buyers can find a mix of split-levels, Tudor-inspired homes, and wood-sided mid-century moderns.Top-notch Lake County public schools
Students in St. John may attend schools within the Lake Central School Corporation or Hanover Community School Corporation. Both school systems rank in the top five districts of Lake County. “St. John is close to the Indiana-Illinois border and doesn’t have a central square, but a lot of people like to shop here,” Van Denburgh says. Much of St. John’s retail scene can be found along Wicker Avenue in the center of town, where locals can shop at big-box stores such as Target, Tractor Supply Co. and Aldi. The J & M Golf Shop is a popular place to buy golf equipment, and Bella Nails is a locally owned salon on Wicker Avenue. AVGO Breakfast and Lunch has a bright, open interior and full-service bar, with hand-crafted cocktails and coffee to go with a classic breakfast menu and lunch specialties. La Quesadilla Mexican Grill is a family-owned and operated restaurant that opened in 2006 and offers two-dollar tacos every Tuesday.
