“We have a regionally known aquatic center offering recreation swim, events, a swim team, and swim lessons,” says Kelsey Geddes City of Fife Communications and Marketing Manager. “The city has numerous parks and trails for individuals and families to visit and play.” One of them is Hylebos Nature Area, which is a 15-acre space along Hylebos Creek. You can enjoy the preserved habitat or walk along the walking trail. Dacca Park Sports Complex is a short ride south, providing softball and soccer fields. You can enjoy a simple day of play with the family or sit through the major annual tournaments. Just to the north of the neighborhood in Tacoma, you’ll discover Madrona Park. This 3-acre park includes a basketball court, playground, and smaller trails.

An evening out for dinner can be easily done as Fife has dozens of local restaurants. The Poodle Dog is a landmark Fife restaurant that has been serving the neighborhood for over 80 years. This restaurant provides the American comfort classics for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Pick-Quick Drive is another Fife staple. This shop serves classic drive-in helpings of hamburgers and hot dogs. There, you can pair your meal with a creamy milkshake and French fries.

Wild Waves Water and Theme Park is a fun summer opportunity for locals as it's only four miles away. Spend your day enjoying the 25 rides within the theme park or getting drenched in the 12 attractions in the water park. Then stick around for October, where guests can expect several scares from the Freight Fest. “We host free events throughout the year for our community, including an easter festival, music in the park concert series, movies in the park, harvest festival and holiday tree lighting,” Geddes says. The most popular is the Harvest Festival, held in October. This event provides live music and performances, over 50 vendors and corn-on-the-cob roast.

Families can spend the weekend exploring the several museums in Tacoma, including the Washington State History Museum, Tacoma Art Museum and The Children’s Museum of Tacoma. Interstate 5 can also get you to other areas of the West Coast, such as California and Seattle. Fife Heights completes the sweet combination of residential charm and city comfort.
