Levy Park
Growing tomatoes and grabbing essentials
At the community garden, people can grow tomatoes and basil and hone their culinary skills in the kitchen. This large lot at 6th Avenue and Aintree Lane has been well-tended over the years by dedicated residents and features several planter boxes and sunshade sails for those more delicate veggies. Other local produce and everyday essentials can be found at the Publix Super Market at Lake Ella Plaza, which also has a pharmacy attached. According to Moran, Bella Bella and Black Radish Bar and Restaurant are two popular eateries in Levy Park. Bella Bella offers Italian cuisine with optional outdoor seating, while Black Radish is close by on Monroe Street and is known for its vegan options and charming atmosphere. Plenty of other dining options are concentrated along Monroe Street, including Liberty Bar and Restaurant, which has seasonal craft cocktails and meals created with fresh local produce.Annual football games and parade floats
Levy Park is a “big football town,” says Moran. During the season, many residents head to Florida State University for weekend games. In April, the area hosts an Annual Springtime Tallahassee Grand Parade on Monroe Street, which includes marching bands, expansive floats and several dance performances. A St. Patrick’s Day Party is also held on Monroe, where neighbors enjoy lots of beer with a side of Irish music.Recreation and relaxation in Levy Park
Levy Park Recreation Area entices residents with its basketball court, playground and four clay baseball fields. During the hot Florida summers, neighbors can relax at the outdoor community pool. Nearby, the LeVerne Payne Community Center hosts afterschool programs and provides tutoring, computer access and numerous classes and clubs. Lake Ella Park is slightly outside the neighborhood and offers a waterfront area with a 0.8-mile trail, where wildlife like geese and turtles are around to say hello along the way. Residents visit Capital City Country Club for its public, 18-hole golf course, meeting and event spaces and restaurant.Commute by car, or hop on the star
Commuters use StarMetro, the area’s public bus system, to reach places like work and downtown Tallahassee. Several residents are employed by Florida State University, according to Moran. Drivers can hop on U.S. Route 27 to get to their desired destination. The Tallahassee International Airport is 9 miles away.Cottages with historical charm
Most homes in this historic neighborhood were built in the 1920s and 30s, with many architectural styles reflecting those times. Many lawns overflow with lush tropical landscaping around cottages and Craftsman homes, which range from $170,000 to $350,000. According to Moran, a few new multi-story, traditional brownstones are sprouting up around the neighborhood. They have still been designed to match the area’s historical charm and range from $400,000 to $550,000.Robust Arts Magnet Program at Raa Middle School
