Some roads, like Orchard Street, retain their original brick construction, bringing a nostalgic vibe to the area. Railroad tracks run parallel to Lotus Avenue, but locals say that the track isn't used much, so it doesn't bother them. Many schools, stores, and parks are nearby, making the neighborhood very walkable, and Downtown Toledo is just 3 miles away. In the commercial areas, brightly colored murals adorn condos and apartment buildings, revealing another neighborhood personality. "Residents in the Southside neighborhood are fiercely protective of their community," says Anita Williams, a Realtor with Williams Realty.
