Convenience and community in Canterbury
In the suburb of Canterbury, residents can reach highways, shopping centers and the hospital in under 15 minutes, while also having a quiet, forested neighborhood with spacious homes to call their own. But location and housing are only part of the appeal. “A huge highlight is the community feel,” says Michelle Barbosa, a Realtor at River Fox Realty who has been selling properties in the area for 8 years. “Everyone knows all of their neighbors.” And from attending movie nights with the Canterbury Recreation Association to playing badminton and basketball at Deep Run Park & Recreation Center’s open gym, neighbors have plenty of opportunities to get to know each other. Cape Cod and ranch-style homes start at $250,000 while four-bedroom Colonial Revival homes start around $400,000.

Homes, both ready-to-go and ready to be revamped
Canterbury lots have plenty of elbow room, sitting on tree-shaded lots nearing half an acre. “People really like the large lot sizes you can find in this area,” Barbosa says. “A lot of the homes haven’t been totally renovated yet, unlike a lot of other areas. They like that there’s character and charm and that they can really make it their own or keep the architectural integrity as is.” These established homes start around $250,000, while move-in read Cape Cod and ranch-style homes start around $325,000. Split-level and Colonial Revival homes offering at least 2,000 square feet of space usually go for between $400,000 and $500,000. Canterbury’s most lavish Colonial Revival homes can be found in the southwest corner of the neighborhood, often spanning above 3,000 square feet and including four to five bedrooms. Prices range from $800,000 to above $1 million. There are a few condo and townhouse communities, primarily by Regency Woods and Grayson Hill. Condos and townhouses begin around $200,000 and $260,000, respectively.
