The Disney-owned Arvida Corporation constructed the community of Country Walk, Florida, in the late 1970s. The area was originally farmland but started to be built out when a vast amount of housing development occurred on the western edges of the Miami metro. Country Walk was rebuilt after Hurricane Andrew in 1992, which destroyed over 90% of the homes, with houses now being built out of stronger material. Since the hurricane, Country Walk has transformed into a vibrant 1,200-acre community of 16,000 residents. "If I were in the market to look for a house that has variety in size, price and amenities, Country Walk would be on the short list of communities that I would visit," says Marcus Barrios, a real estate agent with Barrios and Associates Realty and a longtime resident of the area. The median price for homes in Country Walk is $686,000, higher than Miami and the state. Homes in the area range from ranch-style to new traditional and Mediterranean revivals. Barrios says there are also smaller townhouses available.
