With a population of around 20,000, this village offers small-town charm and privacy. “It’s not a situation where everybody knows you, and everyone knows what you’re doing,” says Theresa Sperling, a village trustee for Montgomery. “But the community is very welcoming, which is a nice and healthy balance.” This atmosphere and proximity to nearby job hubs make Montgomery popular with professionals who want to come home from work to a laid-back, suburban village. “We have so many locals who not only were born and raised here, but they’ve chosen to stay and work here,” says Kristina Nemetz, communications manager for the village. “We’re a small community, but we’re mighty.” The median price for real estate in Montgomery hovers around the high $200,000s, lower than the national median by more than $100,000. “The biggest draw for me moving here was the amount of space and lower cost, compared to nearby cities,” says Sperling. “I purchased my townhouse in 2005.
