So here you can have the best of both worlds.
The South Foothills offer many outdoor recreation from walking, hiking, biking, water sports, and concert venues. The heart of Denver with many family friendly to night owl fun can be within a 20-30minute drive. If you are looking to explore north or east side neighborhoods you are looking at 40minute drives but they are worth the visits as well.
