various levels for equality and inclusive policy reform.
Alex earned dual B.A. degrees in English Literature and Political Science from the University of Colorado, followed by a JD degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Much of her education and passion has centered around better understanding institutions of power, their place within the legal system, and finding ways to utilize the law to improve the lives of people facing systematic oppression.
After graduating in 2017, Alex became the Legal Program Administrator for the GLBT Community Center of Colorado. There, she provided legal resources, tracked changes in the legal and political landscape affecting LGBT people, provided legal research and analysis for the creation of inclusivity training, and coordinated partnerships with attorneys and organizations throughout Colorado. Alex served as a committee member on the Public Policy Amicus Committee of the Colorado LGBT Bar Association for two years.
In late 2018, Alex moved from Colorado to Michigan and put her legal endeavors on the back burner to pursue her other passion - becoming a mother. A year later Alex, and her wife Jess, welcomed their son Kerrigan Lee Breckenridge into the world and their hearts.
Deciding to focus back on law as Kerrigan neared 3 years of age, Alex was admitted to practice in Michigan in November 2022. After which she joined the firm of Gillard, Bauer, Mazrum, Florip, Smigelski, and Gulden, becoming the first female attorney in the firm's nearly 100 year history. Alex’s practice focuses on Estate Planning, Family Law, and Real Estate matters.
When she is not working, Alex enjoys spending time with her family, reading mystery novels, scrapbooking, and sampling local wine.
