Barbara Cousens is a licensed Realtor® specializing in mid to upper bracket properties in Old Town and Alexandria City environs. She moved to Alexandria from South Africa in 2001 accompanied by her two big dogs and was quickly rooted to the dog community and all that Old Town has to offer, including its beautiful historic human-scale architecture. She also likes its accessibility to the East coast and the European continent.
She is action-oriented, energetic and well-organized - the type who knows how to get things done. She plans a strategy that pinpoints her clients’ needs and determines how they're going to meet them. Barbara produces the figures and analyses to back up her intuition. She also has a lot of patience and treats her clients like friends from the get-go, giving them lots of feedback along the way.
Realtors, generally have a wealth of information on macro stats and market conditions which they can bring to their clients’ attention so they get a bigger picture of what is happening in the market. Barbara deems this essential to any transaction. She enjoys all her transactions and always looks forward to helping buyers and sellers achieve the satisfaction that comes with a successful move.
Prior to becoming a Realtor®, she worked as a fundraiser for a national charitable institution which helped me connect with many of the associations in the area. Barbara is currently a supporter of The Christian Community and a non- profit called Child Justice Inc. Before her arrival in Old Town, she lived and worked in publishing and public relations in London and traveled extensively in Europe.
In South Africa, Barbara ran her own public relations firm for 20 years focusing on design and editorial services. She still thrives on finding a unique selling proposition for properties which she reflect in the marketing and photography. She loves a home with a good aspect and, if necessary, will engage the services of a stager to maximize its showing potential. This has proven fruitful to sellers.
