About Bonnie

Bonnie McGowan is the founder and developer of Birds of a Feather, an LGBTQ Community located in Pecos, NM, one of the first residential communities in the country designed for people of like minds to “age in place.”

The daughter of a Minnesota builder and granddaughter of a developer, Bonnie had the real estate seed planted early in life. She started out buying, remodeling, and flipping homes as a hobby while pursuing other careers, but her passion for real estate and her dream of developing an LGBTQ community would eventually define her future efforts.

After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1974, Bonnie spent ten years as Director of one of the first advocacy-based programs designed to find alternative treatment options for juveniles and adults involved in the criminal justice system. She left that program to pursue a career as an investment banker/broker advising banks on investments in bonds and mortgage-backed securities. For more than a decade she continued to develop her investment banking career, successfully acquiring multiple security and insurance licenses. She holds the distinction of being one of the first female partners in a Minneapolis-based investment banking/brokerage firm.

Bonnie originally obtained her NM Real Estate license to assist with re-sales of lots and homes at Birds of a Feather. She worked as an Associate Broker with City Different Realty in Santa Fe for 8 years, but now that she has sold all of her lots in the community, she applied to become a “Qualifying Broker” and started her own real estate firm called Hawk’s Landing Realty. Bonnie will continue to assist with not only re-sale lots and homes at “Birds,” but also actively work for those folks who prefer city living in Santa Fe to our more rural setting tucked into the foothills of the Santa Fe National Forest.

Bonnie McGowan is well qualified to assist you in finding the perfect home and/or home site at Birds of a Feather Community as she has spent the last twenty-five years creating, developing, and selling lots and homes in the community.

Although all 44 of the homesites at “Birds” have previously been sold, Bonnie is now available as a Qualifying Broker and owner of Hawk’s Landing Realty to assist buyers and sellers with resale lots and homes in the community.

Bonnie is also very familiar with Santa Fe real estate having lived in Santa Fe for several years prior to building her EcoNest at Birds of a Feather community. She also worked for one of the top real estate firms in Santa Fe for the past eight years helping folks find their perfect home in the “City Different.”
