About Dave
Dave's career starts as a tale of old-fashioned self-reliance.
After living in several Northeastern states as a child, Dave attended Manalapan High School in Englishtown, New Jersey and then The City University of New York at Brooklyn College. He paid his way through school by working as a motorcycle messenger in New York City in addition to working for a Wall Street brokerage firm. After school, Dave decided to move north to Vermont rather than continue on in a career on Wall Street.
In Vermont, he worked as a Registered Representative for an investment company selling mutual funds before deciding "it was okay to have some fun for a while". He went on to spend the next several years working and skiing at several of Vermont's largest ski attractions, later earning the distinction of joining the 'Century Club' after having skied Stowe Mountain 105 days in one season.
Dave eventually decided to pursue real estate training and attained his real estate salespersons license in 1988. He has successfully helped numerous families with all of their real estate needs ever since. Working with one of the first agencies in Chittenden County to offer buyer representation, Dave has represented the best interests of hundreds of buyers and sellers.
Dave considers himself a semi-native of Vermont: he wasn't born here, but he got here as quick as he could.
His family has a long history along the shores of Lake Champlain in the Charlotte/Ferrisburgh area. Dave's great (x4) grandfather, John Thorpe, was said to have been the first to build a wooden cottage on Thompson's Point in 1874, but it wasn't until 1895 that the Thompson's Point Association was formed. The area (now owned by the town of Charlotte) has since enjoyed a well-deserved reputation as the bucolic summer lakefront gathering place for families.
Dave fondly remembers spending all the summers of his youth with his grandparents at the lakefront cottage that they built on Long Point in North Ferrisburgh. Running around barefoot, catching fish and frogs, building rafts, swimming and water skiing, board games on the screened-in porch on rainy days: it was an ideal place for an energetic kid to burn off energy during the day and sleep soundly as a result every night.
Since 1998, Dave and his wife, Nancy, have called the beautiful shores of Mallett's Bay in Colchester their home, where they enjoy the various activities and wildlife of each vibrant, Northeastern season.
