About Derrick

Originally hailing from the Great State of Texas, Derrick relocated to Southern California in 2012 with a strong passion for building relationships, demanding work, and Real Estate. Shortly after attending the University of Houston with a Business Administration focus, he jumped right into Corporate Business sales in the South Region and eventually moved to Los Angeles. Between Texas and California, he spent over ten successful years working as a Sales Executive for a Fortune 500 Company in the Telecommunications and Business Relations field. He developed a large Rolodex of professional clientele from his daily business encounters and dealings.

After noticing all the changes in the Los Angeles market, he quickly transitioned full-time into Real Estate and investment opportunities. Soon after receiving his license, Derrick was offered to join a Top-Producing Luxury real estate team based out of Beverly Hills, which eventually was responsible for the record-breaking $90 million dollar sale of the Historic Owlwood Estate in 2017. This estate is most famous for its previous notable owners Marilyn Monroe, Sonny and Cher, and Tony Curtis. After the sale of Owlwood, Derrick then got a true taste of what the infinite possibilities of real estate really are in Los Angeles!

He has since joined Coldwell Banker Realty in Beverly Hills, one of the top-producing Brokerages in the city. There, he founded and is the Executive Director of his growing team, The Smith Associates. Derrick uses his people skills, understanding of market trends, firsthand street knowledge, and expert negotiating tactics to give his clients the best experience possible. With approx. $65+ million sold in real estate transactions on & off-market since 2019, he is on pace to becoming one of the Top-leading agents in Los Angeles. Derrick diversely specializes in Residential, Multi-family, Luxury Development, and Commercial Land aspects of LA real estate. He prides himself with the expertise of always “knowing the numbers,” staying ahead of the curve in market trends, finding off-market deals, and his 100% transparency and openness with his clients. Derrick consistently goes beyond to ensure all his clients are satisfied, fully protected, and well-represented to the highest professional capacity.

In his free time, Derrick likes to enjoy traveling, days at the beach, golfing, coaching little league baseball, and spending quality time with his lovely wife Ashley and their two beautiful boys Christian & Chross.
