Personal:

We moved to Vermont in 2000 to the Champlain Islands from Isle Of Palms, South Carolina. My wife Anne and I owned and operated a Restaurant and Outfitting Business, there. We wanted to expose our young family to living on the lake and share with them the experience of growing up in an authentic place with four seasons, and to move closer to our families in New York and Massachusetts. In 2001, we bought a circa 1860 farmhouse and cottage on the lake in Grand Isle that we have been renovating, endlessly it seems, and improving over the years.

There are a lot of unique variables to owning a property in this area. It is so important to have an understanding of shore land, septic and local permitting as well as the differences in values for one area of the lake vs another. Be sure to partner yourself with an experienced agent who is looking out for your interests, not the first agent you call.
