The outdoors and northern Minnesota has been a huge part of my life since I was a kid. I went to college in Bemidji, after I served in the U.S. Army in Alaska. I was fortunate enough to serve part of my tour as a game warden on Ft. Richardson. My first career was for 35 years, involving a lot of "customer service." I spent as much vacation time as possible camping, hunting, fishing in northern Minnesota. I started coming up to Cook, Orr and Crane Lake area about 11 years ago. I didn't realize how beautiful this area was until I got to experience it first-hand. I sold my hunting cabin in the Bemidji area, and bought hunting land in the Orr area. In 2009 my wife and I built a "deer shack" which has become a family gathering spot for grouse and deer hunting season. In the winter we will snow-shoe into the property to enjoy a weekend in solitude. My wife and I (and our labs) moved up to this area to live full-time in early 2015. Since then, in addition to enjoying all of the fishing and hunting opportunities that exist here, we have become active in ATV riding on some of the numerous trails in the area. Voyageur Country ATV has grown to be the largest ATV club in Minnesota. In the winter, the snowmobiling in this area is unparalleled. Over the past few winters, the Crane Lake area has been one of the few places in the state to find good snow. I think the scenery of the big water, rock formations, and forest lands are incredible!
