A native of Plant City, FL, who relocated to North Carolina at an early age, Kathy takes great pride in her North Carolina roots. She grew up in the small town of Cliffside, NC which is located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is here that she grew up being taught to respect the environment and from there developed an immense love for the outdoors.
Early in her career and after graduating from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Kathy worked as a Victim Specialist and as the Director of Victim Witness in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is here that she developed a passion for helping people, ensuring that their voice would be heard in the courts and in the communities. Kathy’s career in Victim Services that has now span over 20 years is where she has learned tremendous and powerful negotiation and advocacy skills and she applies these to this day as an advocate for the right and needs of others.
After a couple of not so pleasant personal real estate experiences, Kathy decided that she would like to take her passion for being an advocate into the the home buying and selling industry, an industry that was in desperate need of agents who served their clients above all else. So, in 2005, Kathy started working in real estate in Oak Island where she developed amazing personal and professional relationships with buyers, sellers, developers and investors all along the NC coast. Kathy managed to sell over $4 million dollars in her first year of real estate and she quickly earned the trust of Oak Island’s number one custom builder, Ken Kiser, to become his personal Real Estate Broker for home sales on the island. Kathy continues to be a multi-million dollar producer each year and she has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
Born with a rare congenital heart disease requiring multiple surgeries, Kathy has never let her heart defect define her. Rather, she has used this experience as an opportunity to better herself as a compassionate person with a willingness to serve others. Although running Palm Realty takes up the bulk of her time, Kathy is still very active in many charitable and civic organizations in her community, including the American Heart Association, her son’s PTA, school fundraising and the School Improvement Team at Ashley High School in Wilmington.
Family is most important to Kathy! Kathy’s favorite hobbies are spending time with her husband, Mike, and her son, Evensen. She loves to return home to the foothills, traveling, creating art, horseback riding, boating, playing softball and most importantly…spending time with her family and friends. Kathy believes that laughter, salt air, ocean breezes and great times with family and friends can cure just about anything! It is certainly good for the soul!
