Kia Chambers

Mrs. Kia Chambers is a native of Columbus, Georgia, and a product of Muscogee County
School District. She is a proud graduate of Hardaway High School. After graduating
from Hardaway, Mrs. Chambers continued her education at Albany State University
where she gained a BS degree in Biology with Pre-Med emphasis and a minor in
Chemistry. She then received her Master’s and Specialist degree in Elementary and Middle Grades Education. She spent many years in the Muscogee
County School District, where she served in various capacities such as a classroom
teacher, Curriculum Council Representative, Academic Coach, and Teacher Support
Specialist, to name a few. Mrs. Chambers has received various awards, and one of
her proudest moment was when she was named Teacher of the Year at Hannan
Academy in 2004.
As a community advocate, Mrs. Chambers is a member of many community-oriented
organizations. Currently, she serves on the Girls Inc. Board and is a Trustee for Historic
Columbus. She served on the board of Junior League of Columbus, former Partner's in
Education Chair for the Junior League of Columbus and teen advisor for Jack and Jill of
America, and serves as an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, The Links
Incorporated, Historic Columbus, Network of Professional Women., and the North
Columbus Rotary Club. She currently serves as the President of The Columbus GA
Chapter of The Links Inc.
Mrs. Chambers has received many accolades and awards, including being a graduate of 2009
Class of Leadership Georgia, Graduate of 2012 Class of Leadership Columbus, Recipient of the
Mary Jane Galer Community Service Award, Lamda Iota Basileus Award, The 2017 Benjamin
Watson Jr. Trailblazer Award and has been recognized nationally by the Links Incorporated One
of the Talented Tenth and Regionally by Alpha Kappa Alpha as an African American History
Maker
Mrs. Chambers and her husband own a local real estate company where she serves as
the managing broker. Mrs. Chambers is a member of the prestigious Million Dollar Club
and Circle of Excellence for Realtors. In May 2014, Mrs. Chambers became the first
African American to be elected to the only City-Wide seat on the Muscogee County
School District. In 2016, Mrs. Chambers was appointed to serve as the District 3
a representative for the Georgia School Board Association, and in January 2017, she was
elected to serve as the Vice Chair of the board for the Muskogee County School District.
January 2018, Kia Chambers was elected to serve as the Chairman of the Board for the
Muscogee County School Board. She was re-elected as the city-wide representative for
a 2 nd term in 2018, and in 2020, she was elected to serve a 2nd term on Georgia
School Board Association Board of Directors, where she represents 12 counties, including Muscogee and Harris.
Kia Chambers has been married to her husband, Travis Chambers, for 28 years, and
they have three boys, ages 26, 19, and 17. In her free time, she enjoys reading a good books,
spending time with her family, and traveling the world as a lifelong learner.
