Maura Long

Maura was born and raised in Hanover County. A 2014 Hanover High School graduate, Maura served as a class president and captain of the softball team. From Hanover, Maura took off for Harrisonburg where she attended JMU. Maura majored in Sports & Recreation Management and found her passion for sports for social change and building relationships through corporate partnerships. She volunteered in the JMU athletics department and enjoyed it so much that she accepted a position in the corporate partnerships division.

In 2018 Maura volunteered with several JMU alumni at Special Olympics Virginia’s Summer Games, their largest health and sporting event of the year. Maura was smitten with the athletes, volunteers, and the many programs Special Olympics Virginia had to offer. Four months after the event, Maura moved back to Richmond and joined the Special Olympics Virginia staff to plan state championships, create volunteer education programs, work with the athlete leadership programs, and grow relationships with all types of stakeholders.

Maura has three older brothers… you may see a slight resemblance to lead agent, Kevin. When Maura moved back to Richmond, she partnered with the RLT to participate in the Polar Plunge for SOVA. She got to see first-hand the strong relationships Kevin had with his clients and the good the RLT army was able to do in the community. For Maura, people are her priority, and Richmond is her home. She is thrilled to help pave the way for a positive transition and an exciting new chapter for her friends and clients.

In her free time, Maura serves as Vice President of the JMU Hart School Alumni Network and volunteers as a Special Olympics Unified Partner and coach. A self-proclaimed French fry extraordinaire, you can find her exploring the Richmond restaurant scene and all the outdoor recreation RVA has to offer.
