Shanel Lang graduated high school with honors in June 2014. She then attended the University of Hawai’i at M?noa and graduated with her bachelor’s in psychology, Class of 2017. After graduating college, Shanel pursued her dreams of having a family, creating a homestead, and living a healthy, happy, off-grid, self-sufficient, surfing family lifestyle. By leaving the home that they were renting in Kalama Valley, O’ahu at the time, and living out of their van while working and attending UH, Shanel and her husband Kai, also known as Kama the Surfing Pig, were able to save $60k in two years, rather than wasting it away on rent. Kai and Shanel moved from Oahu to Hawai’i Island while 7 months pregnant in July of 2018. With the $60k that they had saved, they were able to purchase their first property in Ainaloa, clear it, and build their first permitted, off-grid family home. Their children, Kaila and Kanaloa were born at home during the development of their homesteads. After witnessing what Shanel and Kai had achieved by chasing their dreams through hard work, sacrifice, sweat equity, and the pursuit of happiness, many of their family and friends followed suit and decided to do the same. This lead Shanel to acquire her real estate license, and to help and guide others through, every step of the way; from finding and purchasing the perfect home and property, to clearing land, to farming and gardening, to installing septics, to building, plumbing, installing electric, water catchments, solar power, and living off grid.
