About Shay

An Ivy League graduate, Shay Hata specializes in the sale of condominiums, single-family homes, and multi-family homes in Chicago, the North Shore, and the nearby suburbs. She helps, on average, over 125 families per year purchase or sell homes in the Chicagoland area, resulting in over $50 million in transactions each year.

As a born negotiator, she has been negotiating her entire life. Starting at the age of four as the daughter of a single mom, she would stand outside of the family bakery for hours and negotiate with people passing by to buy their baked goods so her family could put food on the table. As a teenager when she traveled to other countries, she could not buy an item unless she negotiated at least one-half off the starting price and most recently she completed Harvard's Negotiation and Leadership program to further hone her lifelong negotiation skills. While she negotiates incredibly hard on behalf of her clients, she also prides herself on always being honest and believes strongly that it is not only her duty to represent her clients to the best of her ability, but also to educate them throughout the process so clients can make the best short- and long-term decisions possible.

Shay goes beyond to find her buyers the home of their dreams even if that means door knocking and sending letters to homeowners in neighborhoods her buyers are interested in living in, to find them a home not currently listed, if she cannot find something on the MLS that they love. And for those “hot” properties in multiple offers, you can rest assured you are in the best of hands due to her unique multiple offer strategy which ensures her clients always win in multiple offer situations. She has also renovated over forty properties, knows construction and home issues inside and out, and has an extensive roster of service providers such as a plumber, tile people, painters, contractors, and more should you want to renovate your new home. She also has a love for old homes, so she is well-versed in how to deal with old house problems such as asbestos, lead-based paint, old electrical, and more.

For sellers, every property Shay sells receives a professionally designed website just for that property. Shay and her team also do online retargeting, mobile ads, professional photography, floor plans, 3D Matterport virtual tours, drone photography, and more to make sure they sell your property for the highest price possible in the shortest amount of time possible. She also partners with a professional organizer who will help you declutter your home and get it photo ready as well as a repair person whom Shay pays to make repairs, so your home is in top-notch shape before it goes on the market.

In her spare time, Shay loves to read, exercise, cook and do yoga. She lives in the Chicago area with her crazy but loveable dog, her son, and her husband. She also volunteers with animal rescue organizations and donates a portion of each commission to local animal rescue groups as well as local schools, as she believes strongly that a good education should be available to every child, as it was to Shay, who is the daughter of a working-class single mom.
