Sylvia Newell

I emigrated to the United States in 1986 on a business visa from Canterbury, Kent, England where I created and managed a B&B (Bed and Breakfast) House in a village named "Bridge" just 15 miles from the seaport of Dover. It was very interesting and fun meeting people of different nationalities and cultures. On arrival in the United States we owned and managed a restaurant in St. Petersburg on Gulf Boulevard.

My family and I moved to Live Oak in 1987 and bought our first 10 acres. It was a dream come true to have this much land, practically unheard of where I come from. Suwannee County reminds me of the United Kingdom with its blossoms in the spring and green pastures and farms. Its rural family living at its finest. I have resided in Suwannee County for over 22 years now and cannot imagine living anywhere else. I have traveled to many other parts of the USA and also other countries.

I am truly glad we made the decision to move to America and then Suwannee County, it was the best thing we could have done for the future of our three children whom have all graduated Suwannee County High School and gone onto University (FSU and UF and Emory Riddell, GA) and received their bachelors and masters degrees. I served three years (one year as chairperson) on the Suwannee County Zoning Board, and Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustment. I am a member of the Florida Elks Lodge.
