Corona Heights
Produce markets and nearby dining hotspots
With a cypress-rimmed patio and local Andytown Coffee, the Randall Museum’s Café Josephine is Corona Heights’s primary spot for a bite, while mom-and-pop groceries like Eureka Market offer local shopping. There are many other places nearby for shopping and dining, including the farm-to-table Frances restaurant, which is a few miles east. A block over is Dumpling House on Noe Street and the rustic Starbelly on 16th Street, serving American comfort food with California influences. Beit Rima is a popular spot for Middle Eastern classics, located a few blocks north on Church Street. Courtney’s Produce is within walking distance on 14th Street, while less than a mile south is Mollie’s Stone’s Markets for more grocery items. To the east of the neighborhood on 16th Street is Potrero Center, a shopping center with big box stores like Safeway, Ross and Petco.Victorian homes and Edwardian condo buildings
Corona Heights consists of single-family attached and detached homes plus condos along quiet streetscapes. Housing styles here include Victorians with a few Craftsman and updated modern homes. Single-family homes typically range from $1.2 million for a 1,000-square-foot attached home to $2.3 million for a 3,300-square-foot modern updated home with luxury-style interiors. Condos are often in contemporary or Edwardian buildings and are priced from around $1 million for a one-bedroom with 600 square feet of space to $3 million for a 3,000-square-foot, three-level contemporary condo. Formerly St. Joseph’s Hospital and a backdrop for Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo,” Park Hill is the neighborhood’s largest condo complex, with seven stories and its own HOA, featuring 136 apartment-style units ranging from 500 to 1,400 square feet.Public schools with career and technical education programs
Students may attend one of the city’s most desirable public elementary schools, McKinley Elementary, rated at an A by Niche. Everett Middle School gets a C rating, while the B-plus-rated Mission High School offers Career and Technical Education programs in environmental science, fire science, media arts, public health and urban agriculture.A public park that’s home to the Randall Museum
Corona Heights Park is the neighborhood’s namesake. Sprawling for 15 hilltop acres, the park includes a dog run area, tennis courts and a 1-mile trail full of wildlife from lizards to birds and butterflies. The site also features a grassy lawn and a popular museum. "The jewel of the park, especially for kids, is the Randall Museum--a clean, shiny, and friendly natural history and arts museum,” says longtime San Francisco resident David Lytle, former editor of the city's 7x7 Magazine. “Getting an annual membership is a brilliant idea if you have littles, because they have science, art and animal-themed workshops every Saturday. But you can take adult arts and crafts classes, too." The park is also a scenic hotspot in the spring, with a rainbow of wildflowers scattered around the hill, and there’s always something blooming at the park's community garden. Directly north of the neighborhood, the 36-acre Buena Vista Park features trails, live oak groves and city vistas. This expansive site also features an off-leash dog play area and a popular children’s playground. Less than a mile west is Mount Olympus, a 570-foot hilltop green space. The monument at the top marks the exact middle of the city.Community walks and nearby park music festivals
The neighborhood frequently puts on a Corona Heights Walk throughout the warmer months. Neighbors meet for a hike around nearby parks, starting from Corona Heights Park to the top of Mount Olympus. Golden Gate Park, a few miles from the neighborhood, hosts many community events throughout the year, including the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival each August. The event brings in local musicians of all genres alongside food vendors and visual arts for a weekend of cultural diversity. It's one of several music festivals that come to the park.Accessible hub next to main highways and MUNI stations
Corona Heights is a few miles west of U.S Route 101, which leads south down the San Francisco Peninsula and north to Interstate 80. The interstate crosses the Bay Bridge into Oakland and the East Bay. The neighborhood is within walking distance of the Castro Station MUNI Metro station for light rail access and multiple public bus stops, particularly along Castro Street. Just east of Corona Heights is CPMC Davies Hospital, while The San Francisco International Airport is 15 miles south.
