Tate’s School offers preschool through eighth grade students a hands-on, interactive education on its sprawling, wooded campus in the Cedar Bluff neighborhood of Knoxville. Founded in 1968, Tate’s School uses a teaching method that emphasizes brain-compatible learning and uses hands-on experiences. The campus has saltwater swimming pools, an obstacle course, garden and some small, cabin-like buildings to create an indoor and outdoor learning village for students.
In addition to academics, Tate’s School offers athletics, such as basketball, cross country, golf, flag football, tennis, girls' volleyball, and track and field. Tate’s middle school students work through a college- preparatory curriculum which includes advanced-level and pre-AP classes. Middle school classes are capped at 18 students, and the science, technology, engineering, art, and math, or STEAM program, is woven through all subject areas. In the summer, Tate’s School offers day camps to the general public with weekly themes, including dinosaurs, superheroes, pirates, board games, carnivals and pirates.

We recently started our daughter in the PK4 class at Tate's. Class size is super small (6:1) which allows for a lot of individualized attention. The kids spend a ton of time outside (rain or shine) which was really important to our family. We get multiple photos every day and I'm blown away by the amount of art/projects they complete at 4 years old. Our daughter stays at after care until 5pm and there are a lot of working parents so we never feel bad about sending her. The school works hard to make the transition smooth for the whole family. They paired our family with a another family before school started so I could connect with a mom already at the school and ask silly questions I might not ask an administrator. They also have a group chat for parents in the class to connect. They allow parents to volunteer on campus and also to join their child for lunch. I've been so impressed with both my daughter's learning experience and the way they have made our whole family feel included.
