St. Andrew Catholic School is the only school in Pasadena’s downtown “Old Pasadena,” a plus for parents who work in the district’s city government and businesses. It was founded by four Sisters of the Holy Names in a rented house in 1897. The current staff and students are proud of its history as one of the oldest Catholic schools in the Los Angeles Archdiocese, balancing its academic focus with faith-based service and leadership teaching. The curriculum serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Pre-kindergarten is a five-day program with classes of 12 to 15 children doing age-appropriate, hands-on activities that explore motor development and spatial relations using math, language, religion and social skills. Students in six through eighth grades work in the computer labs and each has a Chromebook for homework. Teachers incorporate technology in lessons via Google Classroom, which allows parents to access students’ work. Academic subjects are supplemented with weekly music and art classes that take advantage of field trips to Pasadena and Los Angeles’ many museums and performance venues. Music classes include preparation for weekly Mass attendance, and other religious instruction entails preparation for the Holy Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Sunday Liturgy of the Word. Students are taught about the liturgical year and the lives of the saints.

Very nice and welcoming diverse community. Strong administration and caring teachers. A type of faith community that I was looking for. Very happy with the communication and openness during Covid. Stellar academics, they were able to accommodate my accelerated child. The children are in school learning with all their classmates.

Terrible and disappointing school! My child will definitely not be returning! If you decide to enroll your child in this school, be prepared to experience classism, gossipy staff/parents, bullying and hypocrisy at its finest. The principal demonstrates favoritism towards the parents who actively don...

After a couple of years of wanting to remove my kids from public school, I was finally able to earlier this year. I am very pleased they were accepted in to this school. Although my kids have only attended fo...

We have both of our kids at St. Andrew, one in 6th grade and the other in their ECE program (PK). My 6th grader struggled with distant learning during the pandemic and has come a long way since attending St. Andrew. Her home room teacher, Mr. Rodriguez (coach) and Mrs. Ortiz have really made an impa...
