Southside is a growing rural community situated on a peninsula along the Coosa River, about 5 miles from Gadsden. Many homes are on spacious lots, surrounded by undeveloped farmlands. The community has seen significant revitalization, particularly around Southside Landing, which opened in 2022. This waterfront park features kayak rentals, boat slips, and a ramp into the Coosa River, along with an all-inclusive playground and a large green space for community events like summer movie nights. The Southside Sports Complex is a hub for local youth baseball and softball teams. Dining options are limited, with Blackstone Bait Shack being one of the few locally owned restaurants, while most shopping and dining needs are met in nearby Rainbow City. Southside's roads have been recently repaved to accommodate the growing population, and Alabama State Route 77 provides easy access to Rainbow City and Gadsden.
