Named from a Creek word meaning "old town," Tallassee is nearly 200 years old and is centered around the Thurlow Dam, which provides electricity for much of the region. The city offers a mix of historic and modern housing, including turn-of-the-century farmhouses, cottages, bungalows, midcentury ranch-style homes, and contemporary two-story homes. Older homes typically range from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet, while newer builds often exceed 2,000 square feet, with some custom-built mansions scattered throughout.
