Arab, located in Northeast Alabama, is a residential community with a unique history and evolving identity. Originally named Thompson’s Village, the city’s name was mistakenly recorded as Arab in 1882 and has remained ever since. Arab City Schools are highly rated, serving over 2,500 students and planning a new high school building. The city features traditional multi-level and ranch-style homes, often with brick exteriors, and offers lots and large parcels for building. U.S. Route 231 provides easy access to Huntsville, about 30 miles north, and Guntersville, less than 15 miles east, where Marshall Medical Center North is located. Arab Historic Village showcases architecture from the late 1800s and early 1900s, while SugarFest and Christmas in the Park are popular annual events. Arab City Park, Thompson-Eidson Park, and Twin Lakes Golf Course offer recreational activities, though less than 20% of residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park. Dining options include local spots like Midas Burger, with more extensive shopping available in Huntsville. Summers are humid, and occasional snowstorms occur in winter.
