A collection of four six-story buildings, each with its own lobby and elevator, Northern Lights is an uncommon condo in the booming Queens neighborhood of Flushing. A Tudoresque complex with a gated courtyard and a facade with carved stone flourishes, the 1924 87-unit development, converted in 2024, stands out in a field of new builds. “It’s very unique to take a historical building and renovate it,” says Elegran Forbes Global Properties agent William Yau, who works in the area. “In Flushing, they knock down everything and build new developments with very small units. Northern Lights is a completely different ball game.”
In addition to offering prewar character and charm, the homes in Northern Lights are much more spacious than units in neighboring developments. “Anything you see in Northern Lights is going to be 200 to 300 square feet bigger than most condominiums in the area,” says Yau. “It gives you the blend of historic charm yet modern finishes, which is quite different from the condo inventory [here.]”
Spacious homes with fine finishes, many with restored fireplaces
Homes at Northern Lights range from studios to four-bedrooms. Studios can be up to 448 square feet and list for about $400,000. One-bedrooms measuring a maximum of 900 square feet ask between $500,000 and $750,000. Two-bedrooms as large as 1,190 square feet sell for $615,000 to $1 million, and condos with three bedrooms and more measure up to 1,750 square feet have a price range of $900,000 to $1.2 million.
Residences combine prewar features with modern conveniences. Units are spacious, with open floor plans, high ceilings and large bedrooms; many include a restored wood-burning fireplace with a stone surround. Custom door casings and millwork radiator covers add character. Kitchens, some with windows, feature Lucenti Interiors cabinets, waterfall countertops, Franke Pescara faucets, Bertazzoni refrigerators and Blomberg dishwashers. Bathroom walls and radiant-heated floors are clad in Nemo tiles and feature a Maax Mackenzie bathtub, Phylrich faucet and polished chrome closet rods. Apartments have video intercoms, and some include a washer/dryer.
Live-in super, shared courtyard, gym and children’s playroom
Amenities at Northern Lights include a gated, landscaped internal courtyard with seating, a windowed gym with cardio and strength-training equipment, a resident’s lounge and a welcoming children’s playroom. The building has a live-in super and shared laundry facilities. The development does not have a 24-hour door attendant, which Yau says is not unusual in the area. “It’s the same for a lot of Flushing. Most buildings don’t have many of those things,” he says, referring to extensive staffing and amenity packages. Storage is available, and heat is included with common charges. Northern Lights is pet friendly.
Murray Hill with conveniences on busy Northern Boulevard
Northern Lights is located in the Murray Hill area of Flushing on the busy, four-lane thoroughfare of Northern Boulevard. An H Mart and Great Wall Supermarket are two blocks away for grocery shopping. Businesses along the boulevard include pharmacies, restaurants, nail salons, gas stations and chains such as Dunkin’ and 7-Eleven. Japanese restaurant Izakaya Nana and Korean all-you-can-eat Picnic Garden BBQ Buffet are popular dining options nearby. Downtown Flushing, which has a mall and major retailers, including Macy’s, is a 10-minute car ride or 20-minute walk from the condo.
A Long Island Rail Road stop, the 7 train and connection to major roadways
The closest public transit is the Long Island Rail Road at the Murray Hill stop, which can be reached in around five minutes on foot. The 7 train in downtown Flushing is about a 20-minute walk away. A commute to Midtown Manhattan takes about an hour. Many buses run along Northern Boulevard. Yau notes that parking can be tricky here, although a parking garage is nearby. “It’s not a car-friendly area,” he says. Northern Boulevard connects to Interstates 295 and 678 for travel by car within and out of the city. The drive time to LaGuardia Airport is about 15 minutes.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
