Simple amenities and a desirable Upper East Side location
Emerging from their postwar, 13-story building to a canopied, pedestrian-friendly block, residents can reach the commercial hubs along Second or Third Avenue in mere moments. Another four avenues west, they'll find the varied landscape of Central Park and to the east, serene views of the East River. With so much culture to take in nearby, it’s no surprise this building’s biggest perk is its location. Still, residents of this Yorkville address have reason to enjoy a day spent at home. Erected in 1963, this white brick building has numerous amenities, a pet-friendly policy and, best of all, unusually large units that range from 600 to 1,800 square feet.
Plus-sized living spaces with great natural light
Most of the building’s 145 units are divided among studios, and one- or two-bedroom apartments, though a small number of three-bedroom units are present, as well. “This building has junior-four apartments, which are incredibly coveted in the city. They have an L-shaped living room, and that smaller portion can be closed off and converted to a second, windowed room,” says Shawn Felker, an associate real estate broker with Corcoran. Junior fours were the norm for buildings erected between 1955 and 1968, like 215 East 80th Street. That postwar era had other benefits, as well. “The units in this building are really generously sized by city standards, and the construction was still really solid back then. The parquet floors, for example, were cut to size and laid one by one. They’re 60 years old now, but they’re still in excellent condition.” Some units may have updated finishes due to renovations over the years. Prices fall under a wide range, between $825,000 and $2 million, but the common charges, which cover gas, water, cable and internet, are “considered some of the lowest on the Upper East Side,” according to Felker. An additional monthly assessment is in place through mid-2025.
Family-friendly amenities and around-the-clock service
215 East 80th Street consists of two towers—one facing 80th Street in the front and another facing 81st Street in the back—connected by a plain corridor. “This building has more of an entrance than a lobby,” Felker says, though there is a 24-hour door attendant. “There’s no grandness to it like some other buildings in the city. It’s about half the size of your typical lobby.” Potential homebuyers may find the back tower slightly more preferable, as all amenities are in the rear tower, mainly at ground level. There’s a meeting room, laundry room and no-frills gym, clad in mirrors and packed with an assortment of equipment, including a Peloton bike. In the playroom, a floor-to-ceiling chalkboard, shared toys and several activity centers cater to the youngest residents and their families. Bike and storage rooms are available for rent in the basement.
Shopping and dining run the gamut, plus fantastic parks nearby
Centrally located in the Upper East Side, this Yorkville address grants residents access to the East River waterfront at Carl Schurz Park, as well as the myriad attractions of Central Park—and with it, the impressive cultural institutions along Museum Mile, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim. Nearby, Whole Foods and Target cover the basics, while high-end boutiques and retail stores are located farther south. Residents can find just about any cuisine, including Thai, Japanese, Italian and Mediterranean, within a three-block radius. Three doors down, Eli’s Market sells gourmet goods and serves upscale American dishes at the attached restaurant.
Nearby public transit facilitates intercity travel
A third-party parking company operates a garage in the building, a huge convenience for residents with a car. Otherwise, stations for the Q and 4, 5 and 6 trains are located six blocks north on 86th Street. Residents can also access the 4 and 6 trains stop at 77th Street. Two crosstown buses, running along 79th and 86th Streets, connect to the Upper West Side just across Central Park. For those who prefer to commute by bike, a Citi Bike dock is stationed at the end of the block, at the corner of 80th Street and Second Avenue. LaGuardia Airport is roughly 9 miles away by car.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
