Built by celebrated New York City developer Fred F. French in 1919, 910 Fifth Avenue is one of those prewar Upper East Side buildings that contains sprawling apartments with many distinct rooms known as a “classic six,” “classic seven,” and upwards. Spacious layouts and architectural details add to what Elegran agent Seth Podell describes as the “old school New York charm” found in many of the co-op’s units. But Podell thinks that another aspect of the building is what ultimately moves people to buy there. “The location can’t be beat. It’s at 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue. The best part of Central Park is right at your doorstep. That’s first and foremost.”
Being across the street from Central Park also means incredible views of the green space. When a home in the co-op with more than 45 feet overlooking the park owned by a concrete magnate sold for $16.5 million to the founder of an investment banking firm, the Observer described the residence as “an ideal master of the universe perch.”
The building’s original limestone Italian Renaissance facade underwent significant modification by Sylvan Bien in 1958. Alterations included increasing the size of the windows to provide more light and better views, and the addition of four floors and several units. “It doesn’t feel like a dark and drab prewar building,” says Podell. Now 16 stories tall, the white-brick-clad building contains a total of 54 units. “It’s kind of boutique. It’s not huge. It’s a more intimate building.”
Spacious homes with prewar flourishes and park views
Homes at 910 Fifth Avenue range in size from two- to five-bedrooms. Two-bedrooms as large as 1,900 square feet list for up to $4.4 million, and three-bedrooms measuring up to 3,400 square feet list for about $5 million. Four- and five-bedroom apartments can be as large as 4,800 square feet and have sold for as much as $16 million.
Many residences retain prewar features such as coffered and beamed ceilings, millwork, crown molding, entry foyers and high ceilings measuring as much as 11 feet, six inches. Select homes offer outdoor space, some of them quite large. That said, apartments here vary widely in style and configuration and, in many cases, thoroughly reflect the previous owner’s aesthetic. Examples include a four-bedroom with copious dark wood paneling and a frescoed dining room, and a 4,200-square-foot home with pink and sage green interiors reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles.
Around-the-clock door attendant, discounted parking and a fitness center
A white-glove service building, 910 Fifth Avenue has a 24-hour door attendant and a staffed service elevator. The building offers a fitness center and on-site parking at a discounted rate for a limited number of units. According to Podell, unlike in many other New York City residential buildings, securing a parking space is not impossible “Spots do come up,” he says.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
