A commanding postwar tower in Yorkville with welcoming staff and views
The 36-story, 538-unit Continental Towers is a commanding presence at the corner of Second Avenue and East 79th Street. Built in 1974, the condominium, set back from the curb, occupies a significant portion of its block. The revolving door entrance, framed by polished red granite and sizable planters, features a long covered walkway, contributing to the building's sense of arrival. Beyond the threshold, a large chandelier hangs at the center of the expansive, one-and-a-half-story lobby that incorporates dark wood, polished stone and wallpaper in a warm, restrained print to create a slightly formal but welcoming space.
The building's staff reportedly puts residents and visitors at ease and, according to Yelp reviewers, is one of the condo's greatest assets. Commenters describe them as "warm," like "family" and eager to help.
The service isn't the only thing that attracts buyers. "Low monthlies make this building very attractive," says Keller Williams New York City agent Cigdem Kaya, who notes the building has strong financials overall.
Mostly one-bedroom homes, city views and some balconies
Homes at Continental Towers range from studios to four-bedrooms, with one-bedroom apartments accounting for almost half of the units. Studios can be up to 400 square feet and list for as much as $620,000. One-bedrooms measuring a maximum of 1,238 square feet list for between $700,000 and $1.1 million. Two-bedrooms as large as 1,800 square feet sell for up to $1.6 million, and condos with three bedrooms and more measure up to 2,000 square feet and ask between $2 million and $4 million.
Many apartments include balconies, and the building offers impressive, largely unobstructed cityscape views. Units have central air.
Attentive staff, landscaped roof deck and upgraded elevators
living
Continental Towers is a full-service building staffed by nearly 30 employees, including a concierge, 24-hour door attendants, a live-in super and an on-site managing agent. The condo has a furnished and landscaped roof deck, a courtyard with plantings and seating and a fitness center. The large laundry room was recently renovated, and the elevators are high-speed, thanks to a recent upgrade. The building offers a bike room and storage space. Pets are permitted for owners.
An independently operated parking garage is located in the building.
Central Upper East Side off busy Second Avenue

Central Park, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Fifth Avenue can be reached in 15 minutes on foot. Walking to Lenox Hill Hospital takes about 10 minutes. Prestigious private schools The Chapin School and Brearley School are a few blocks northeast.
Several subway lines, buses and FDR Drive to the east
"The location is superb with close proximity to the express bus stops and the Q train station," says Kaya. The 4 and 6 trains stop at 77th Street and Lexington Avenue, and a crosstown bus on 79th Street provides connection to Manhattan's West Side. The Q train can be caught at 86th Street and Second Avenue. FDR Drive is three blocks east for travel uptown and downtown by car; the highway connects to the Queensboro Bridge at 60th Street for access to Queens. LaGuardia Airport can be reached in about 25 minutes.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
