Long Island City condo with East River views

One Hunters Point, a 12-story glass-and-steel condo building in Long Island City, offers something many residences in the middle of Manhattan can not: a view of Manhattan. “It’s pretty amazing,” says Mary Beth McGill, an agent at Modern Spaces, who has sold several units in the building. “And it’s close enough to Manhattan — the commute is so short it’s nothing. You’re in the city in five minutes.” Built in 2008 across the street from Long Island Rail Road station and yard, the building offers amenities like a community garden and outdoor dining area, as well as having low common charges and a fiscally conservative board. “I tell people that when they're buying an apartment, they're not just buying a pretty apartment. It’s like marrying into a family. It’s the management company, the board, the staff. And all of the above is a very big plus at this building.”

Efficient layouts with outdoor space

Of the 132 units at One Hunters Point, the vast majority are one- and two-bedroom homes ranging from around $900,000 to $1.5 million. A three-bedroom costs about $1.7 million. Layouts offer open living spaces with dark wood flooring and open kitchens with matching cabinetry and stainless-steel appliances. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of the East River and the Manhattan skyline. Many units offer private terraces. “There’s no wasted space in these apartments,” McGill says. “There’s great closet space, the appliances [are well placed], everything was well thought out.”

A shared backyard with grills and a firepit, plus a lawn

Residents enter through a sleek lobby with wood accents, as well as a door attendant at the ready. One of the highlights of the condo is its landscaped backyard with a stone patio — complete with grills, a dining area and a firepit— and a grassy lawn surrounded by mature trees. A lounge room with a kitchenette is adjacent to the yard, and there’s also a gym. There’s also a live-in super.

On the waterfront in Long Island City

Hunter’s Point South Park, overlooking the East River, is a short walk from the residence and offers basketball, volleyball and a dog run, plus lawns and other places to take in the view of the Manhattan skyline. Frank Ottomanelli's By The Water provides food and drink for parkgoers, and it’s a destination for salsa dancing on Thursday nights. Other restaurants include Gamehaus, which has craft cocktails, arcade games and a place to watch a game; the ramen spot Takumen; and Mexican at Casa Enrique. Thrill seekers might enjoy iFLY Indoor Skydiving New York, which is less than a five-minute walk. A nearby pocket park with basketball and handball is named after rapper The Notorious B.I.G. — or is at least a play on it. “In 2022, after a naming contest was held, the park was renamed Notorious LIC Park,” according to the city website.

Quick access to and from Manhattan

The building is right on I-495, which is buried in front of the building and leads to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel for quick access to and from Manhattan. The 7 train can be found two blocks away at the Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av station. The Long Island City LIRR station across the street offers service into the rest of Queens and Long Island. Residents can also hop on the NYC Ferry at Hunters Point South, which brings them across the East River in less than 10 minutes.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
