A Richard Meier building in black? One United Nations Park was the first. The New York-based architect famous for opulent white facades envisioned this pitch-dark monolithic structure in 2019 — nearly six decades since the beginning of his career back in 1959. The glass skin made of oversized panels of black glass doesn't reveal people or furnishings inside; the obsidian curtain wall obscures interiors, making the exterior uniform, day or night. Just south of the United Nations Headquarters on 1st Avenue between 39th and 40th Streets, the layered glass condominium building comprises 148 units across 43 stories. On the western facade, 69 balconies provide panoramic views of Midtown. On the eastern side, a recessed niche carved into the 27th and 28th floors distinguishes the uniform glass skin. This cut-out illuminates at night, leaving a distinctive imprint on the city skyline. “From a feng shui perspective, the black reflective surface, size and geometry of One UN Park give it dominance, helping it pull more ‘chi’ energy than other buildings in the area,” says Judith Wendell, a consultant who helped the architect design feng shui-approved residences.
Fully automated homes to control lighting, motorized solar shades and the climate
Residences at One United Nations Park are equipped with a built-in, fully-automated control system by Creston, which residents can use for a wide variety of applications – including lighting controls, motorized solar shades and climate control. Kitchens at One UN Park are sumptuous, sheathed in natural stone and calacatta marble and custom cabinetry is clad in Italian white lacquer. Elegant fixtures by the German luxury kitchen and bathroom brand Dornbracht are accompanied by integrated appliances from high-end kitchen German manufacturer Gaggenau. The ceilings ascend gracefully, reaching heights of over nine feet. In the case of select duplexes, they soar to 20 feet. The lofty ceilings further articulate the spaciousness of the open floor plans, which feature floor-to-ceiling windows designed to bathe interiors in sunlight.
15,000 square feet of amenities spaces with designer furniture, including Finn Juhl
Residents can feel the warmth of the sunlight on their backs as they enter the 15,000-square-foot amenities suite on the second floor. Featuring a double-height curtain wall and a palette of neutral hues, the interconnected spaces are outfitted with furniture by design icons, including Finn Juhl, Fritz Hansen, De La Espada and Knoll. Adjacent to the 70-foot two-lane indoor lap pool, there’s a cedar sauna and a glass-tiled steam room. The fitness center boasts Technogym equipment and free weights. For those who prefer a more mindful approach, the yoga and private training room features wood flooring and custom millwork. Moving beyond fitness, the tower lounge beckons with widescreen televisions, comfortable lounge seating and a dining table — a social hub for residents. Meanwhile, the resident lounge and game room offer billiards, private dining, co-working spaces and entertainment options. A sliding door connects the adjoining catering kitchen, equipped with Gaggenau appliances and ideal for hosting gatherings. For a cinematic escape, the screening room accommodates up to 12 people with built-in stepped seating. And the dedicated children’s playroom features a pantry, a private changing room and an array of furniture and toys. Meanwhile, out front, the underground parking lot, complete with a black cobblestone ramp, offers discretion, security and the convenience of private, direct access to the residences.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
